"World Peace..." enters US Billboard Album Chart at #14 (updated)

Re: US Billboard Chart. Weird Al takes #1 - "World Peace in at 18 to 20

You realise how difficult it must be to make money in the music business now on album sales alone, when Morrissey sells such a relatively small amount and given how great the album is and all the great reviews.
If you want to survive you have to tour.

Which he clearly can't do. I actually giggle at people on twitter getting all excited for a rumoured UK/Ireland tour in October. When is the last time he actually finished a tour with no postponements or cancellations?

If he's sick, fine, then stop touring. Even if it's mental illness, fine, I've been there and I get it.

He must make enough from royalties and have enough out away to not have to worry about making money from touring or album sales.

I also think the amount of times he's offended people with his statements have caused people who would normally buy the album and give it a go to reject anything he puts out. He doesn't exactly have a good reputation.

Or you can promote your album and sell more copies...

Imagine how weird it'd be if Morrissey got #1 in the U.S.

I think he could do it.

yeah you can get there with that many sales but it depends on the period of release and whos releasing what at the same time. just like votes you can split buyers and fanbases. i do think marketing does impact sales but it isnt a be all end all and it depends on a persons fanbase dynamics demographics. there have been three cock ups with this promotion imo. the releasing of so many songs never goes well and only dilutes and trends negative opinions, the lack of interviews is a real sore spot especially for morrissey who i think has a gift with description insight and convincing others and of course the tour which might have made people really angry. all of this combined kinda soured the mood so to speak. the spoken word videos were a great idea i hope that someone copies in the future. same with the increase of band interviews and hearing the production interview. those were for the good i think and sorta over due.

I guess we won't be getting a TTY statement on this one--funny! You state that the album is great and has great reviews; did you actually listen to it and read ALL of the reviews. Not everyone here and in the world is one who drops at the feet of the Morrissey statue and praises everything that he does. This release has one--maybe two good songs--that includes the deluxe edition. His lyrics--as noted by many--are some of the sorriest in his career, so the sales reflect what its worth--not much.

Sorry to be a downer, but this release is nothing near some of his greatest output back when he had something relevant to say. To even mention that the music and lyrics here at even close to his great days is a joke.

I didn't say all the reviews were great, I said "all the great reviews" - which has been a clear majority.
And I don't praise everything that he does. In fact, the last few albums have been pretty pretty pretty shit, but this one is so much better - in my view - than anything he's done since The Smiths split up.
Sorry you don't enjoy it, but it really is a subjective matter.

This album doesn't do poorly because of bad promotion. It does poorly because it isn't good. Listen to "Bullfighter" for God's sake. It's horrendous. So is "World Peace."

Morrissey used to be clever and witty. Those days are gone. Now he's just a bully. Nasty and mean. And nobody likes a bully.

Things were looking pretty hopeful for a while: buzz about the album, then he looks and sounds great on tour, but then it all went awry-no promotion, 2 new photos and the tour axed. None of that helped the fact that this album did not live up to the hype.

There will always be people like CG who will love anything he does. But the rest of us know he isn't relevant anymore. It's as if he wanted to make some money and threw together some sub-par lyrics and didn't care enough to actually promote it.

Does he even care that the album isn't well received across the board? Probably not.

This album doesn't do poorly because of bad promotion. It does poorly because it isn't good.

Just out of curiosity, do you also believe the inverse of that statement to be true? Do you believe that the highest charting albums in the US are in those positions because they are very, very good?

WPINOYB is on par with Vauxhall's peak chart position in the US, and is tied for 3rd out of ALL of his albums, with and without the Smiths.

I see no point in arguing over whether the album is "good" or not (I think it's excellent, you think it's horrendous), but maybe a little perspective is needed when it comes to US pop charts.

I've seen at least two registered members insult you today already. I doubt either of them are the anonymous poster. They can't all be the same person. You just have to come to terms with the fact that some people don't like you...because this whole paranoia thing is for the birds.

Yeah, yeah.

The charts were a lot more relevant when Vauxhall was released. So comparing the two albums is out of the question. How much albums did he sell in the Colonies? Hardly any. He's no longer relevant, except to us: the die hard fans on Morrissey So Low. Oh, the irony.
