Morrissey's return to the music world is great news for fans . . . just don't expect to be wowed by his latest lyrical 'genius'

Review by Andrew P Street (0 of 10 stars) - FasterLouder
Despite a chequered solo career, World Peace is None of Your Business is something genuinely amazing: the objectively worst thing Morrissey has ever done

Review by Brent Stavig - Seattle Music Insider
Morrissey’s tenth solo album is an odd hodge-podge of studio tinkering, random sound effects, half-completed songs, Spanish guitar, and brilliant vocals...

WTF?? Something has f***ed with the cosmic vibe big time.

0/10 means that you've done something right. Genuinely dull albums get 2's and 3's. 0 equals hate, and hate is a strong emotion.

Hehe. Human behaviour is funny. The rule is that if x is acclaimed and liked by a lot of people, somebody will soon appear and pretend to absolutely hate x.

I wonder what Andrew P Street's opinion would have been if others had disliked the album.

Btw, Staircase at the University is truly amazing. Simply brilliant.

Finally some spot-on reviews--especially the first two listed. These are reviews done by people who are clearly familiar with Morrissey's past work.

The album cover is as explained in the second review--the worst, shoddiest of his career. Poor Morrissey.

I'm listening to the B sides now, and wow, many of these are better than the actual album (which has some great songs too.)

Weird!

Eamon Sweeney: "Morrissey never ceases to entertain, even though some of his animal protectionist sentiments are extreme, to say the very least."

What sentiments exactly? It's a fact that many of Morrissey's opinions are pretty stupid, but when it comes to animal welfare, his sentiments are just common decency. Sooner or later everybody will consider them common decency.

It's a funny world we live in when it's considered "extreme" to say that needlessly harming animals is wrong, whereas systematically torturing hundreds of billions of animals is not extreme at all. This is just cultural darkness. This must change. This will change.

Strangle a pig and you're normal. Tell them to stop and you're extreme. Ok.

(Or is he talking about the lyrics of The Bullfighter Dies? Then it makes some sense. Not much, but some.)

Down-voting is a funny thing. I could see the newer U2 albums getting 0/10 in spiteful rebuke of former greatness gone to shit, but WPINOYB? I don't think so. It is truly in the eye of the beholder. But he's lost me on this one anyway, because I absolutely love Kill Uncle and that's a "train wreck" as far as he's concerned.

This is great. Like you say, that's a strong reaction. Fuels me to keep enjoying all the more! If only I had his impeccable taste. :p

Re: Article: "World Peace..." reviews (Independent.ie, FasterLouder, Seattle Music Insider, Globes,

Sorry but Kill Uncle is not a train wreck.

a #2 UK album with 0/10 stars? you must be f***ing dumb fat pig!

"0 out of 10" = "I'm an incredible pretentious asshole." Not worth a click, it would be a better use of my time to throw eggs in a lake. Like the other poster, nothing could be a greater vindication of Morrissey's rejuvenation.

Have you been paying attention? He said eating animals was the same as pedophelia... That is extreme. By the way, Morrissey doesn't want you or need you to defend him. The title track is bad. I am the world's biggest Morrissey fan.... and I only really LOVE three of these new songs..."Staircase at the university", "Kick the bride down the aisle", and "Istanbul". The rest range from pretty good to dull to cheesy (the water overdub in Drag the River?? Yikes!) to bad (Forgive Someone)... As an album, This record is a C+ at best. You give it an A? really? so as good as vauxhall? Viva hate? Your arsenal? f*** No!

Re: Article: "World Peace..." reviews (Independent.ie, FasterLouder, Seattle Music Insider, Globes,

Enlightening. It now strikes (ouch!) me that the "awful cover" could be a subconscious olive branch for the people like me who had nothing whatsoever against the original cover of SG. In a way, it's saying, "Yes, poor visually impaired child: you have awful taste. Here, have some more." I LIKE that.
Also, spot on about Dolores O' Riordan. Jaw-dropping spot-on. In a zombie way. Gaaaahh. Innit? :)

Re: Article: "World Peace..." reviews (Independent.ie, FasterLouder, Seattle Music Insider, Globes,

That's the internet kids. A music blog in Australia, you're never heard of, gave it 0 stars.

His carreer must be over!

I agree that Morrissey must be doing something right, there are a few who hated the fact the most fans and critics loved the album.

Fantastic reviews in the uk and Europe. In the US less enthusiastic but mainly positive . How annoying.... They were ready to bury him and he just won't go away! :D

Oh dear, well that's not good. No tunes? I suggest we ask ourselves "What would Morrissey do?" and there is only answer. Let us sing a verse from "Forgive Someone" and turn the other cheek. Errr... Can anyone remember how it goes?

I tried very hard to like World Peace. I treated it as I have often (successfully) treated a Fall album and played it repeatedly in the hope its charms would seep through. I've come to the conclusion there's a lot of The Emperor's New Clothes about it.

This album has so few hooks I'm surprised it stays on the record store shelf.

The hype is over and this album is seen for what it really is: a collection of stunningly produced bad tunes with bad lyrics. It sounds crisp and energetic, but when you listen closely, it all falls apart.

The party is over.

Finally you've found some reviewers who agree with you. Are you giddy with excitement?

Exactly. Music's a subjective business, a great review or a bad review confirms nothing but another person's opinion and because somebody shares your opinion in print doesn't mean it's proof that your ears work better. Think for yourselves people!

If you like the album you like it, if you don't you don't. Why is everyone so hell bent on telling us how great or bad the album is and why everyone should agree with them?
