"World Peace..." review by Alexis Petridis (4/5 stars) - The Guardian

except for morrisseys other post comeback albums i believe. gotta say people dont review morrissey albums very well it seems though allmusic does a decent job of it.

The reviewers almost seem to be on Morrissey's side this time...

I am completely addicted to most of his music but, aside from 'Istanbul', the bulk of the lyrics on this album are a bit too bloated for my liking, and the production is too... polished. It is absolutely confusing to me how this album is being so well received; much of its content is simply embarrassing.

Nope...this is the best he's done in years...I listened to the album on NPR and didn't hear a SINGLE track I didn't like...It's brilliant.

There is nothing to be surprised about, it is a well-executed album that is a breath of fresh air that deviates from the tired, ham-fisted power chords of the last two albums! As stated by someone earlier, World Peace is what "Kill Uncle" could have been and what "Ringleader" should have been. We cannot expect "Hat full of Hollow" each time, nor would we want it. The album is exceptionally modern because of the production, another Years of Refusal would have been a disaster and three steps backward.

I might be the only person here to say this but in a lot of ways my favourite Moz record is Years of Refusal. That being said, I wouldn't want this to be another record like that one. I like the idea of having all these very different records to choose from. Different sounds, different arrangements, different tempos, different topics, different vocal ranges.

I truly, truly believe that every Moz solo album has its own sound. And that's why I love him. No album sounds like the one before it, or after.

Dear son,
I adore - Years of Refusal LP.

we'll let you know

It is getting tiresome that reviewers actually think WP is a solid release; the songs are so devoid of any lyrical genius (as compared to his Viva, Vauxhall, Arsenal days) that one must be just a sycophant (AKA TRB) who would praise any song Morrissey sings. That is what is most tiresome and ridiculous.

This release would not hold up against any of the aforementioned ones, and to argue otherwise is simply a slap in the face to the talented musicians (Boorer, Whyte, Day, Street, etc.) and even the once creative Morrissey.

This release ranks down the bottom with Refusal and some of the dredge that he has dared to associate with over the recent past.

Years of Refusal is my husband's favorite Moz album—you are not alone! It's one of my favorites, too, certainly my top pick out of the three that proceeded WPINOYB.

Songs like Action is My Middle Name were headed lazily right back to YoR territory - thankfully he and the band took a risk and didn't go there - especially since no label would sign them with that trollup.

Who is TRB?

Who is TRB?

That psychopath who runs the Following the Mozziah blog, who also tweets as MorrisseyParody.

It's funny because before that mess on the tour he would praise Kristeen's album every single day. Now? Not so much.

I think the reviewer hit the nail exactly on the head when he claimed that , on hearing the album , " ... you're occasionally struck by the rare sensation that you're listening to a Morrissey album on which Morrissey's presence isn't central to your enjoyment."

I suppose that's why I'd tend to group this album with others like Southpaw Grammar and Your Arsenal. My favourites have always been the works where Morrissey has the good sense to stand back a bit and give the music some space to breathe.

I’ve said it before but I think it’s unfairly maligned. My wife isn’t nearly the music obsessive that I am, but one of the few artists we both LOVE is Moz and she took a while to warm up to YOR but is a fan now.
