"World Peace..." review by Ann Powers and stream - NPR; other streams

Re: WPINOYB now streaming in full on NPR! (Plus a very positive review.)

As the subject line says, the full album is streaming in full on NPR's website now! I'm not sure if there was a radio broadcast of the accompanying (very positive) review, but either way, this is nice publicity—usually the albums that show up on First Listen wind up getting on-air coverage on various NPR programs and local affiliates.

Great news!
Many thanks :)

Thank you!

How dare Morrissey put out such a great album (after all we've been through). I'm getting that feeling again...

Indeed. I feel like I'm 17. I want to listen to it over and over…

Thanks for the heads up! NPR is good news.

All these overwhelming positive reports, all collated on a handy site, right here. And overwhelming positivity from users here too, which I don't see repeated on any other online presence. f*** Morrissey-Solo, eh? All OK when it's good, isn't it?

"By this definition — more philosophical than musical — Steven Patrick Morrissey is the greatest punk rocker ever to spit in a queen's eye. Morrissey would likely be horrified that a critic would call him a punk at 55 (or at any age, really); his music with The Smiths and throughout his long solo career is so much more melodic and eclectic than what that term often invokes. Yet with his 10th solo album, World Peace is None of Your Business, he reasserts punk's impropriety as the force that makes his music inimitable."

I love this.

Please, with all due respect, I want to go on record as saying this is not a good release; the only song that has any tune or an "old Morrissey" voice is "Staircase." The lyrics to "Neal Cassidy" are ridiculous--referring to Ginsberg over and over--seriously?

This album--if it reaches #1 or debuts there--will drop faster than idiot Obama's approval rating--if that can get any lower.

The review by NPR was right on target as far as I am concerned, but the comments by listeners on their site were like reading thoughts of people who have had no contact with his output since The Smiths. Love him or hate him, there is no denying his place in music history... nor the influence.

Best "whole album experience" in a longtime, reminds me a little of Strangeways. Staircase is pure Ecstasy as is Kiss Me a Lot; I really like the darkness 3/4 in!!

Been a long time since a song like Staircase. I really like it. The rest will have to grow, like most of his albums.

I have a Do Not Read policy when it comes to commentary on articles about Morrissey outside of fan forums. There's no point—90% of them are one of four things: (1) Complaints about him being irrelevant and/or boring, (2) whining about how vegans/vegetarians should shut their mouths, (3) tired jokes about concert cancellations, or (4) "I used to like the Smiths."

Having never felt compelled to comment on an article about an artist I actively dislike—and there are many of them—or whose work I am not familiar with, I strain to understand why so many people need to throw their nickles in the ring when it comes to complaining about Morrissey, but I suppose that's just how the internet works.

There is plenty of vitriol here, plenty of killjoys, plenty of bile. I make it a point to only read the headlines, click on links if interested, and never read the comments.

Absolutely ridiculous. The reception for the album has been overwhelmingly positive. Did you miss all of those comments? How would you know about the perceived nastiness if you didn't read the comments? Sure, there are loons here and there, but you're only seeing what you want to see to support your view.

Could not agree more - I've really no idea what the reviewers are listening to. This is an embarrassingly awful record.

Agreed. I may be adding your "4-step" program to my reading habits.

You mean except the one you just replied to, right? Hah.

There are going to be jerks everywhere in life, but I must say that in the few days since I've returned here after a very long absence, the atmosphere is overwhelmingly positive. I do troll-scroll whenever necessary, of course, but friendly participation begets friendly participation!

I think he or she meant comments on articles on newspapers, music websites etc. Like through Disqus or Facebook. Is that hard to understand, or is it just bad will (consciously interpreting opinions wrong)?!

USkinny, you are one of the primary reasons, I no longer read the comments. You - the angry moderator who will not be buying the album. You - the angry moderator who puts down anyone who believes in God. *You - the angry moderator who cusses left, right, and center. Mods should moderate and neither create nor inject themselves into controversies. Your job is not to escalate matters but referee, diffuse, and reprimand if needed. There should be term limits on moderators and you should, of your own accord, step down. Please go.
