Three new singles to be released consecutively (starting May 14) according to @leethommo

Via Lee Thompson, Music Editor at Record of the Day. (@leethommo on Twitter)
14/05 - World Peace Is None Of Your Business.
21/05 - Istanbul
04/06 - Earth Is The Lonliest Planet.
No word on formats or b-sides yet.
Very surprised at this - I'd resigned myself to thinking that the singles would be AIMMN, TKAL and PATSE.
Unusual strategy too, staggering the releases like this.
Very exciting though!

Thanks for passing this on but why would you be surprised? None of the songs you mentioned (Action, People etc) are on the published album track-list so why would they be released as singles to promote it? They were universally panned by critics and fans alike, and have already been released on b-sides to a live single. It is surprising, however, that one of these songs is coming out in less than a week’s time, and the first time ever for Morrissey that an album title track has been released as a single.

I'm surprised because, fan as I am, I still expected there to be an element of lazy-cash-in to the whole thing and considering that most of us thought that those three songs were going to make the album I thought it likely that the rumoured three singles would be them; similarly to the whole 'That's How People Grow Up' Best of/YoR situation.

I'm happy to be wrong though!

The album tracklisting was posted on True To You in April:

11 April 2014

Morrissey's new album, World Peace Is None Of Your Business, is confirmed for July release.

The tracks are:

1 WORLD PEACE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS (4:21)
2 NEAL CASSADY DROPS DEAD (4:02)
3 ISTANBUL (4:40)
4 I'M NOT A MAN (7:50)
5 EARTH IS THE LONELIEST PLANET (3:38)
6 STAIRCASE AT THE UNIVERSITY (5:30)
7 THE BULLFIGHTER DIES (2:05)
8 KISS ME A LOT (4:03)
9 SMILER WITH KNIFE (5:13)
10 KICK THE BRIDE DOWN THE AISLE (5:18)
11 MOUNTJOY (5:08)
12 OBOE CONCERTO (4:07)

I assume he means Earth is the loneliest planet?

Who is this bellend anyway?

Proof if ever it were needed that Morrissey's contempt for his fan base knows no bounds, just as long as the readies keep rolling in.

An obvious move to ensure the collectors, of which there are many, will part with their dollars just to ensure completism.

Tacky repackaged sales tactics. If the tracks are so throwaway then one doesn't have great hope for the album. I would also expect to have heard a track by now on the wireless with release dates so imminent. One must wonder why they are being kept under wraps?

Wow, the first single is coming out in 8 days! That is Exciting!

I'm not sure why Morrissey feels the need to release three singles in 21 days. I wonder if Lee Thompson got his facts correct. In the recent past, Morrissey has released his singles a couple of months apart from one another. ( This, in regards to the singles, from "You Are the Quarry,""Ringleader...," and "Years of Refusal.") Why should there be a change now? Maybe the folks in charge at Harvest Records are making this decision. I'd like to see these singles be released at least four or five weeks apart from one another. It reminds me of the old adage, "a good meal should be savored, and not devoured all at once." Plus, why release so many b-sides before the official unleashing of the album itself? I'm willing to bet Lee Thompson has gotten his facts wrong. I hope that I'm right.

Dude take a chill pill, you're starting to sound like Morrissey.

... is the correct response!

I think Morrissey may have (finally) realised that the charts are as good as dead and he just wants to create a bit of a buzz by announcing the new album with a three single bang...

I understand what you're saying, but I think if he's really going to do this, he's taking the wrong approach. I remember the excitement and wonderful anticipation I felt, back in 2004, waiting for every single to be released. Every single, and almost every b-side, was outstanding! Morrissey and Alain really delivered. I feel Morrissey only needs to release one single before the unveiling of his new album. ( With two b-sides attached:).) There already is tremendous buzz for the new album, especially after his well-received autobiography.

There is the possibility that Morrissey has a dozen or so b-sides that he wants to share. Maybe, after his 21 day scattershot single release fest, he's planning to share two or three more singles after the new album's unveiling. That would be quite exciting, because it'd almost certainly mean more b-sides for us to enjoy.

Am I missing something but where does it specifically say they will be released as "singles"? The gist of the tweet, to me at least, sounds like they’re getting premiered on those dates. Maybe on Record of the Day’s website?

Difficult to imagine Moz not releasing a traditional single.

Hello People of Planet Earth,

This is the new way for record companies to make money! They say an album is coming out and you pre-order. Then they slowly leak out 2-3-4 songs you can buy on itunes before you can buy the album. Then before you know it you have bought multiple songs on the same album twice!! This will be just the same. Don't worry if you didn't buy the pre-order because they will get you on the back end when you buy the album to get the rest of the tracks. "there is a cash register ringing and it weights so heavy on my back"

With all the nonsense that has been clogging up this site of late and the main page articles that have very tenuous links to Morrissey himself how the hell has the demo segment of earth not caused a shitstorm of activity here? Most exciting thing in a long time yet???

Thanks for that soundcloud clip, Anon.

The snippet raises more questions than it answers, but this will be an interesting LP. This will be the first release without Alain's songs and unless there are some Vauxhall-worthy gems, old Moz could be in trouble. Joe Chiccarelli as producer doesn't give much hope as his track record is hit-and-miss at best. Morrissey can't go much longer without another Vauxhall or Arsenal. At this point, I'd think we'd all be happy with a Kill Uncle--I know I would.

I'm not asking for much, just some unique tunes and witty wordplay. My one fear--and it stems from a lot of Years of Refusal and this new Soundcloud clip--is that we're in for a lot of torch songs. There's nothing wrong with a ballad or two, but those over-the-top torch songs really take the wind out of an album's (and concert's) sails. It's a trend that you can't deny if you break down the last couple LPs.

So it's up to Boz really. Hopefully his music makes up for at least 50 percent of this new release. Otherwise, we'll be stuck with Jesse the one-trick pony and his ham-fists.
