The official press release from Staples Center:

STAPLES CENTER TO ADD A VARIETY OF VEGETARIAN OPTIONS TO CONCESSIONS MENU FOR FANS ATTENDING MARCH 1 MORRISSEY CONCERT

"Staples Center not going veg for upcoming Morrissey concert, but adding no-meat options"

Contrary to multiple media reports of Staples Center going completely vegetarian for the upcoming Morrissey concert, representatives for the Downtown venue announced today that they'd merely be adding vegetarian options for the singer's March 1 performance.

“As we have done in the past, we are happy to create a menu with a greater variety of vegetarian items for our guests who prefer these types of options,” said Lee Zeidman, Sr. vice president and general manager of Staples Center and L.A. Live, in a statement....

....A media representative for Staples said in an email that they are still "in talks" with McDonald's about whether they will be open for the show or not. No decision has been made one way or another.

Moz, Big Mac & Beer....Priceless!

I don't see what the big deal is, it's not like going all vegetarian for one night would change anything anyways. He says it's a "victory for the animals", well, not really because they're dead anyways, they're either sold another night for consumption or just thrown in the bin. It achieves nothing other than an ego boost of being able to say "I got Staples Center to go all vegetarian!" Sure it's a show of "look at the power we have", but it doesn't actually change or do anything. Plus people would just eat a burger before getting to the venue if they want to.

just stfu and get on with playing music.

I think he will definitely cancel if it's not 100% meat-free.

I don't see how he can't not do so, after coming out so strong saying it would be meat-free at the show on that evening.

It might change some people's thinking as it has done in the past. Perhaps convince them that eating horses isn't that great.

There would be less animals dead as a result of it as people would be forced to NOT EAT meat that night. It's no big deal really but folks seem to get a bit excited about it. I don't remember people getting so excited when they banned smoking in venues.

Fans who support the idea of a meat-free gig can choose to go meatless that night. Or better still, they can abstain from eating anything. All food production taxes the environment. And obesity... well the costs to society are enormous! :D How hard is it to resist stuffing one's fat face with food for three hours?

Re: Article: Staples Center NOT going entirely vegetarian for Morrissey according to

Seems like a simple misunderstanding: the Staples Center said it would accommodate Morrissey's wishes (meaning more vegetarian options), and that was translated into "Morrissey Gets Venue to go All-Veg for First Time in History!" headlines. Now there are ruffled feathers all around.

I've seen Morrissey at venues where the meat vendors were compensated for their losses. Since Staples says it's still in "negotiations," there's still a chance that McDonalds could close that location for just one night (they can certainly take the "hit"). McDonald's used to sell veggie burgers - how about offering only that option?

If it comes down to a standoff between Morrissey and McDonalds, unfortunately, McDonalds will always win. I hope an acceptable compromise can be worked out for everyone concerned. Jeez, it's always something...

If it's a Friday show, they can just NOT serve meat and claim they're doing it for Lent! Then Moz can come out in his Father Morrissey kit and sing "I Have Forgiven Jesus".

eh .. Most people don't eat horses by choice. Anyways, point stands, nothing is really being achieved. Same animals are still dead whether they're served that day or another. I've never heard anyone go "I used to love eating meat, then I went to a gig and I couldn't get any meat and I thought Great! I'll just become a vegetarian!" ... it's like preaching to the converted there, the ones that eat meat will still eat it before/after the show, and the ones that don't will just carry on. Pointless.

Maybe it's a sign Morrissey's getting laid these days. :o

Re: Article: Staples Center NOT going entirely vegetarian for Morrissey according to

So, now he will have a "real" reason to cancel.

Maybe he will actually change up the setlist and get rid of the horrid songs.

Are people going there for the fine dining or to watch a concert??? Goddamn what's important is the music not the fast food options at the venue.
