Liam Fray (The Courteeners) on Morrissey situation - Louder Than War

“The press have never really gone for us but you know, they don’t like Morrissey either! When we toured with Morrissey, we saw people travelling around to every one of us his gigs going across 17 states. And he was doing that without any mainstream publications supporting him. That really opened my eyes. He just does what he wants – I may not agree with everything he says but I don’t give a shit! It doesn’t keep me awake at night though, I go to sleep soundly every night knowing we’ve sold 40 000 tickets for the next tour!"

I love those guys.

Strange, he loves to talk about Morrissey -probably because Morrissey is much more interesting. Old news, old hat, yawn yawn yawn.

Funny -- I was just complaining the other day about longevity when it comes to the "great bands" (with massive self-belief) of the last 10 years. I thought these guys had faded away but they have a new album, and the singer is unrecognizable. It's like Tony Hadley reborn. Whole different sound, too. Nothing against bands who change (The Beatles, The Stones, Bowie all greatly did). Oasis didn't change enough. But this seems more like cheap calculation.

I shall give it a listen, it's always with new bands with a great album, whom they can tour for 2 years,
but there always comes the 2nd or nothing, the follow up to a great 1rst album is that it's not that good
as the first and never will , some bands who last long did, but have a 'cheap' one, like Suede and Placebo, Oasis too,
well the list is longer, everyone can add one, REM, U2 etc

Therefore the Smiths are so influential in musichistory, not making a weak studioalbum or live album, but split, the story is old but it goes on

Why are some Morrissey fans such petty assholes!? It's such a sad shame. This person has really nothing intelligent to say, like the sniping journalist Moz detests the most. I'm sure his life is no where as interesting either, & even a bigger yawn! These petty, mean comments just sadden me, but thankfully don't represent the many fans i've met following Moz around the US.

There is a great Facebook page called something like "I love Morrissey but hate Morrissey fans"
