wow that is one ugly cover of one pointless book.

I JUST finished reading the "revised and expanded edition" of this book. Lots of insight as to what happened to this band. SAD. I've loved the Smiths since buying "Meat Is Murder" back in 1985. I was in the Army and deployed to Panama in 1988 when they broke up. I found the "Viva Hate" cassette in the PX and thought it was just a one-off solo deal. This book was really well-written and I gotta give it to Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce for putting up with the shenanigans and crap they had to endure. They should be sainted!

You won't be disappointed, I'll tell you that! There will be new pictures, no doubt. My copy from 2009 has lots of cool pics in it. But, OH! Where those songs came from...when you read it, be sure to play the albums....makes lovely soundtrack to it all. :guitar: I bought a bunch of Smiths stuff (on eBay) after reading the book and then listening to the alternate versions of songs on YouTube. Enjoy! Cheers.

I agree, the cover is not the best one...
Cheers Moz

Strongly disagree on both points. I have a copy of the book and the front & back covers are both beautiful and physically unique. If you see this book you will be impressed by it. I read the first edition and it is filled with interesting stories and wonderful insights. This book belongs in every Smiths/Morrissey fan's library.

yeah must have been tough for them guys having a career handed to them on a plate, marr excluded, and a life long cash cow in joyces case, poor guys.

I'm not going into personal probs and what happened after the split of The Smiths

but Andy and Mike surely are Smiths, they jammed a lot together and with Johnny

it was the rythm team in the Smiths , listen to ' some girls are bigger than others'
and many others, if you hear Rank you know it was a team of 4 [well Gannon added for a few months, Andy
sacked but after a few weeks brought back, cause the band was his 'home', as Johny saw Andy would only get
further into the depths of the criminal world, Johnny asked Morrissey and Andy was back in]

just for the music and the band, The Smiths, Andy and Mike were definately notjust replacable,
they were as tight and in heart, body and sould in part and in whole Smiths [and till today are postive
and know they were a both a part of a legendary band]

Morrissey- lyrics ,voice.
Johnny Marr- guitars
Andy Rourke- bass guitar
Mike Joyce- drumms

stated on every Smiths album.

that court thing and personal issues between them now does not, or might not
[yas I was and plea guilty] belittle musiclike the sound of The Smiths

Amen

Morrissey is a really good man and this is a good book for people who love The Smiths but I wish it was more focused on Morrissey's solo career!

In fairness to Simon, the original publisher went bust and Titan picked up the original publishers back catalogue and are putting each title out one at a time in order to get a return on their purchase.

I thought Rogan's re-issue was scraping the barrel but this takes the biscuit. Revised edition includes an updated title! - Is this its main selling point? Like this makes any difference to the book! I know times is tough but this is taking the p***. Goddard must be laughing all the way to the bank.
