Why not try covers?

Here's an idea that I proposed in the Oye Esteban story: Moz, do a crooner cover album. I would give my right arm to hear you sing: Bobby Darrin's "Somewhere beyond the sea"; Gerry & pacemakers "You'll never walk home alone"; Dean martin "You're nobody til somebody loves you"; Sinatra "I did it my way"; etc..

Is it me or was Moz born in the wrong era? I think he belonged in the '50s and '60s singing the way you were supposed to...with a voice & with all of your heart.

Enough rereleasing of old Moz songs...we have them all. I've been saying this for years.......why not do a contest where Moz fans submit their own songs and 12 are chosen to be included on his album. Not to take away from him, but I think there's a fair amount of musician Morrissey fans who are gifted song writers.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong

Hmmm...I'm a singer/songwriter currently under publishing deal with Warner Chappell so for me that idea isn't even too far off. Not that I wouldn't fancy Morrissey singing my songs but I still think we'd be better off with his - 'cos his are HIM. If it's all about involving the fans though I'd suggest we could do something the other way round: why not have a contest of fans doing cover versions of Morrissey and Smiths tunes?? I've been breeding ideas in that direction for ages and I'd love to get involved.

I agree with you on your first thought, I think that if Morrissey had been born in the fifties and then more importantly died a romantic death he would be bigger than Elvis bigger than James Dean..but I've been down this road already...oh well um..I don't think Morrissey should do covers of contempary artists as he is quite above that, but i also HATE every single cover I've heard of a Morrissey song, even the Jeff Buckley ones..so I don't know...Has anyone heard The Smiths is Dead cover album..it is oh so horrid, beyond words!!
Okay, I guess Im done.

I have heard some great covers

what about the business's cover of panic? rosewater elizabeth's cover of I know it's over? They are great!!!!

Oh God !!! I listened to this song today and I did cry like a fool!!!!!!!!... but I love it always !!!! That's one of my favorite songs, wich I love more in Elvis voice. I love it soooo much !!! You don't have any idea of how I feel touched when I listen TO Elvis singing this wonderful, unique song !!!!!! Morrissey would be a dream, I'm sure. YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE !!!

YES - and we could play in various shopping malls all over the world and get famous!! Hm seriously - I wanted to include a version of Asleep on my album. If it ever comes out that is.

If any of you get a chance, there's a short film by UK director Mehdi Norozian called "Killing Joe". I saw it at the Montreal Film Festival. A: The movie is just awesome B: the soundtrack was incredible. I contacted the director via e-mail and asked for the Track list of the soundtrack. Among other songs, "You'll never walk alone" by Gerry & Pacemakers; "You're nobody til..." Dean Martin; and some other great stuff I've been struggling to find.

Anyways, its nice to hear people still being touched by music

Good idea !!! But since I have a terrible voice, they would all go away, in panic...

I KNOW it will, Mimi. And I will get your new album and keep it in my heart.

A guy from Australia will send me You'll never walk alone by Mario Lanza... but ELVIS is everything to me. Dean Martin was his favorite singer. When I listen to ELVIS, I can note that Morrissey use some of his trucks. Could Morrissey be a kind of new ELVIS??? Just listen to "I'm leaving", or "Just tell her Jim said hello", "I remember you", "Your the devil in disguise", "Marie's the name...", "Little Sister", etc...

especially by A SWEET SILVER SONG.

I don't know about whom I should be more confused... Morrissey drives trucks? Wait, Elvis drove trucks?
Ha ha, sorry, I just HAD to.

I knew it would happen...

Dearest "NEW AGE CLICHÉ" Kruzifixia... Morrissey has a lot in common with Elvis. Is it clear now?
