The Smiths not nominated for 2011 Rock Hall of Fame

Just checked the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame web page and the Smiths are NOT on the 2011 list of nominees. By the looks of the list, the Hall is moving in an entirely different direction with no British 80's bands on the list. Some that did make it are Alice Cooper, Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, and LL Cool J. Is it all that surprising? (Score:2, Interesting)
Is it all that surprising? This is and has always been an America-dominated list. The 1980s was the time that the US largely stopped listening to the rest of the world. In general, The Smiths or Morrissey are not very famous in the US - they are a "minority taste". I also wonder whether the nominees have to agree in advance to come for the ceremony... That would probably make it impossible for Mozz & the Smiths to be inducted!
