I'm glad the BBC picked up my post in defense of Moz.

I occasionally do some buying at markets with open meat grills, and the stench is revolting. I find that I can't concentrate or hold a reasonable conversation if I'm downwind.

Yes, Morrissey must know that festivals are prone to all kinds of unpleasant smells, and he could have been a bit more professional, but I sympathize with his distress. This was obviously a bad night all around, and Moz knew that things were not going well. Watching the Coachella webcast, seeing him choke and hold his ears and ask the audience how he could possibly make things worse was painful.

All this fuss over his remarks is ridiculous however; this is Morrissey, what else would one expect?

    Thank the good lord McCartney saved the night!! Morrissey acted like a complete ass and dissapointed all who were there to see him, including myself. He squandered a grand opportunity to gain new fans and didn't seem to mind at all. By far THE WORST morrissey show I have ever been to. The worst part is, the show actually looked worse than it really was when compared with Macca's EPIC set.

    I fully agree with Mozza. Nobody in their sound mind would eat meat these days. Eating meat is like eating human excrement. They feed the poor cows with other cows meat. And they feed the chicken with "spare" bits of fish. The meat industry keeps putting poisonous substances and steroids into the "live stock" so that the animals grow up quicker.

    Being vegetarian is the Only way to be.

    if you continue eating meat, well then you are eating some very harmful "food".

        I feel very sorry that you had to go outside. It sounds like it was intolerable. Cooking, burning meat, any meat, reeks of as much as I loathe, detest and despise what my ex reeks like. Rotten. Garbage. Vomit, vomit ... what he’s worth.

        Morrissey doesn’t want people to know things for certain reasons ... but he’ll fight for what he believes is right. It makes me sick that he got sick. It made him very very upset, and I don’t like that. He feels it. I feel it. But then, to have the Coachella ... well they screwed up right in his face. Right in my baby’s beautiful sweet face. They shouldn’t have permitted murder there. Why would you do something evil like this to him. There’s no excuse for that. It is ferocious.
        No matter what you say, you can’t change anybody else. Do you notice every day, you show how you are feeling. You people just can’t take it when others talk. Isn’t that what these boards are for? Yes, yes ... it is. I want to stick it to the Coachella.

        The more I think about it, they just can’t admit it. But, but it is real.

        Morrissey's behaviour makes me feel sick. 'Oh look at me, I'm a vegetarian - doesn't that make me special' Er no, Morrissey, it makes you the same as the many millions of vegetarians around the world. Those who can't commit themselves to becoming fully vegan. I'm vegan Morrissey and I have to make a lot more sacrifices than you do. Perhaps people at that festival might be upset by your cheese sandwiches. Why are you still eating milk products when all other animals stop drinking milk once they've weaned. Isn't that unnatural? I find your music gets better but you as an individual, get worse. Idiot. Yamaha

              Let me say that being a vegetarian or a vegan does not make you a better person. You are not superior to anyone else. You certainly may think you are, but that, too, is your right. I don't eat meat and haven't for a very long time. I don't want to eat meat. The fact remains that people do eat meat in this world, and that is their right. The reason I don't eat meat is quite simple. It is a personal choice, also. Get it PERSONAL CHOICE. Morrissey has done a lot of good bringing the horrors of the meat industry to the forefront. That is all one can do. You can't force someone to do what you do just because you think it is right. Although I, too, am confronted with the smell of meat cooking on a regular basis, I realize that it is a fact of life that we have to deal with. I do not value animal life more than human life (usually) either. But I do agree that animals do not need to die in the manner they do to feed this world. There is plenty of other food to eat without shedding a drop of blood. Please do not get on your high horse, though, because you are vegan or vegetarian or whatever the hell you are. Do what is right for you and let everyone else do the same.

                I agree, most commercial dairy production is reprehensible.

                Following your logic, though, only fruitarians, jains and (possibly) organic vegans have a right to express their views on cruelty, because everyone else is morally complicit in crimes against the planet and the creatures who live on it. That's ridiculous. In the real world, people make all kinds of moral choices at different times in their lives. I have a relative who consumes no animal products at all. He survived in a war zone without having to compromise his vegan diet. Still, he wears leather shoes, so I guess he's not fit to comment on cruelty. The fact that he was in the military would also make him unworthy of voicing his opinions (by your standards).

                Morrissey's actions may be a bit hypocritical (so few of us are pure), but "reprehensible" and "idiot" are strong words coming from someone who shares his beliefs, and takes them one step further. He has every right to express (however operatically) an honest, visceral disgust that many people feel.

            A colleague of mine at work has always made fun of me for liking Moz for years and commented about the Coachella photo that's in the press and said that "my boy" is fat and how can a vegetarian be overweight. Any vegetarian care to comment?

            For me, I've always backed Morrissey on his views eventhough I don't agree with some including being vegetarian. In and Out, hmmm.

            Is anyone else sick to death of reading about Moz being offended by people eating meat, etc? What a Brendwellan. Get over it. People have free will and do as they please...some of it is personally offensive to some and not others. Moz takes it too far by thinking he's God and has the right to lay down the law to all the carnivores of the world.

            I love Morrissey, yes, but he is ONLY human. Someone needs to remind him of that.

              I think you are all missing something. Morrissey, who surprisingly most people don't know, gained all this massive publicity. Ten years ago, I don't think anyone would give a damn what Morrissey said, at least on a grand scale.

              It means he still relevant, he's still causing drama, and rumors are still swirling about our Charming Man.

              I don't see what the big deal is. He was being typical Morrissey and the quote is so humorous.

                The 2nd one ( from the daily mail) was simply ridiculous. They would not stop mentioning his weight. They even had before and after photos and talked about a bulging belly that I CANNOT see. ooohhh...the man put on 20 pounds...big fucking deal..what the fuck....Everyone thinks Morrissey is fat now because of that weird ass shirt.

                As far as I'm concerned he's earned the right to be a diva and to gain a few pounds. Obviously the Daily Hate Mail have got to undermine him in several ways, as he represents everything they hate, so they mock him on three grounds:

                1) He's militantly veggie
                2) He's a bit heavier than he used to be
                3) He said something about immigration, so lets make him seem hypocrtical by suggesting he's right wing and secretly holds similar views to our paper.

                It's quite good to see that the press still think him relevant enough to make a fuss about a tiny incident in another country though.
                Although, maybe not. The tabloids today write about every second person in Britain (haven't we nearly all been on Big 'Bother' by now?).

                Thank God for Morrissey taking a stand about a real belief he holds. I also thought the cannibalism suggestion was rather amusing. At least it'd make things a bit more interesting if we took to eating people. I might even renounce vegetarianism!

                C'mon now, people eat meat and some don't. I don't get mad at people who are vegan, so why should people be upset with someone who eats meat. Vegetarians need to relax and basically "get over it."

                I can careless what other people or Moz think about of what we eat.I think this is stupid and boring who gives a shit what people eat. As people commiting on his performance if anybody seen RUSH THE CURE or Paul McCartney they are in their mid 50's except Sir Paul is over that age.They all kick major ass and rock the house where ever they play and along with MORRISSEY. Get over it all you lame asses. As for me I am waiting for Moz to come to LA. But I got tixs to see U2 at the ROSE BOWL should be a good show.

                  ...eating red meat also causes colon cancer,like smoking causes lung cancer, only much more common.If its BBQ'd then its even more of a health risk as you're ingesting carbon too.If you eat meat thats fair enough , but I think perhaps there should be warnings about it like with ciggies.A lot of Americans in particular are fanatical about cigarette smoke and then eat tons of carcinogenic food.Very hipocritical really.

                    Red meat causes colon cancer. Vegetable fibre reduces cholesterol and risk of bowel cancer.

                    there is NO argument.

                    You can eat 5 portions of chicken a day or a big red steak - but in order to have your vegetable fibre a day, you need to eat VEGETABLES.
