Morrissey would like to ask associates of The Smiths to spare a thought for Gill Smith who died this morning (April 6th) in London. Gill was 51 years old, and amongst many other things in her life, she had been The Smiths press officer/publicist from June 1984 to 1986. Gill was a vivacious, glamorous and witty character, a stern ally of The Smiths, and was loved and admired by everyone around her.

    Condolences and many thanks to Ms. Smith for bringing The Smiths and, hence, Morrissey to our worlds beyond Manchester.

    Thank you, Moz, for allowing us to appreciate her accomplishments and life with you.
