La Roliflex de un amante de la vida - El Pais

Pacheco, 58-year-old person from Madrid, is photographer, producer, sound engineer and the director of New Means, but surely this page of newspaper is not deserved. His(yours) should be a wide autobiography and in conditions, as that his() friend Joe Boyd (the discoverer of Pink Floyd, Nick Drake or Fairport Convention) was marked when it delivered to the press White bicycles.

In the eighties, at the time that he was establishing the props of the so called " new Fleming ", it he was taking charge promoting the only( unique) concerts of Smiths for Spain. The photos between Morrissey's flies in Camoens's walk, May 18, 1985, are, evidently, his. " He was calling him always by his first name, Steve, and I finished for taking the point ", he smiles. " He had a good conversation. On the other hand, the guitarist, Johnny Marr, was practising more of hooligan ". On the following morning, having breakfast in the hotel Ritz of Barcelona, Morrissey and Pacheco happened to sit down together with the writer James Baldwin. " He did not know the one who was, so I presented it. I said to him): ' Steven, since you go of way gay, you need to know the work of this man '. And yes, they became good friends ... ".

From his statement on TTY July 2006:

"I am writing this in the city of Barcelona where, many years ago, I discovered the American writer James Baldwin sitting alone and somewhat lost in the darkened lobby of one of the city's oldest hotels. Surprised at being inches away from such a great man, I froze in sheepish clumsiness, circled him eleven times, before I realized that he could not possibly have any interest in being approached by someone who had spent all 25 years of their life locked in an attic because too awful to look at. So, I did nothing, walked on, and shortly thereafter he was dead. Yet another lesson..."

Although the translation is a little broken, has Moz just been outed in Pacheco's article?

I realise there's lots of whispering but has anybody been so matter of fact about it before?

Maybe I'm just being naive, so please don't shoot me down.

I just had a glance at the original Spanish article, and here's what I make of it (there are a few gaps and educated guesses as there is no Spanish dictionary around in the office):

In the Eighties, while laying the foundations of "New Flamenco", he was in charge of promoting the only concerts of a very young Smiths in Spain. The photos [...] of Morrissey in Camoens Walk on 18 May 1985 are, evidently, his.
"I always called him by his given name, Steve [...]", he smiles. "He was a good conversation. The guitarist, Johnny Marr, however, behaved more like a hooligan".
The following morning, having breakfast in Barcelona's Ritz hotel, Morrissey and Pacheco happened to sit down next to the writer James Baldwin.
"He did not know who it was, so I helped out. I said to him: 'Steven, since you are into gay media, you need to know the work of this man'. And yes, they became friendly...".

Which is a bit different from Mozzer's version, but as he is not averse to a bit of embellishment and dramatization, it could well be that he felt the conversation was awkward and changed the setting of the tale into his version. Life is, in hindsight, always more fiction than fact... ;-)

                  Yes, "medio" means "half".

I'm not familiar with the idiom of "ir medio gay" or translated literally "go half gay", but I think it means bisexual.

I think there are elements of truth and embellishment/omission to both Morrissey's and Pacheco's stories. I bet Pacheco did tell him that James Baldwin was sitting near them (Morrissey may or may not have been aware of Baldwin's fame prior), and it's likely Moz was too shy to say anything to Baldwin. Giovanni's Room was a beautiful and breathtaking novel.
