Great Songs About Meat - Chart attack

1. The Smiths "Meat Is Murder"
This anti-meat track seems like an odd choice to top the list, but it deserves top billing for not only mentioning meat but also featuring actual meat sounds during the song, as Morrissey sampled the sounds of cows mooing for the track. "Meat Is Murder" was pretty upsetting when I first heard it as a teenager, but many years and many meals later, I've come to appreciate it as perhaps the ultimate meat song.

My least favourite Smith's song (Score:0)
Although I adore the album, this song is really one of the only one's that puts me off in the entire collection. I just can't handle the sounds of the cows. I think it's well written, it's just so damn depressing. I have nothing negative to say about Moz, never have, never will, but this one wouldn't top my list.

Vegetarianism (Score:0)
I think it's a telling observation that you don't have to convince children that eating meat is revolting - it's obvious to anyone, if society hasn't already conditioned you otherwise.

"So, Dad, people kill animals and then cook their flesh just because they say the taste is nice to them?"

"Yup"

"Not 'cause they have to?"

"Nope - not in this country, anyhow. Here we do it for fun."

"Must I do it too?..."

"Yes, Junior. That's the way society says civilised people must behave, even in the 21st Century. If you don't do it too, you'll be mocked and singled out as odd. Hey, stop that puking, now!"

Terrible Song (Score:1)
This song, along with Golden Lights (a cover) is one of the more embarrassing Smiths tracks. Fortunately, for The Smiths legacy, the lack of serious quality control tends to end there.

From the droning, uncreative music, to the comically naive, and over the top lyrics, it is yet another example of Morrissey losing all artistic sense when attempting to engage in politcal commentary.

Morrissey has always excelled when it came to understatement, and has routinely failed when he veered away from it.

Margaret On A Guillotine, Sorrow Will Come, America Is Not The World, and Meat Is Murder, are routinely regarded as some of Morrissey's worst songs.

Even the much more palatable, yet only partially politicized songs such as National Front Disco, and Bengali In Platforms have led many people to question his grasp of the subject matter.

Irish Blood, English Heart is the only passable example, and it was more of an anti-politics piece, than an ideological rant.

one example of vegetarian superiority (Score:0)
I appreciate Moz for his ethics these days more than his music.
This song is definitely one of the smartest things this man has ever done.

I always get a good laugh when carnivores try, and I do mean try, to justify the meat consumption. It just shows their ignorance, and confirms how intelligent and superior we vegans/vegetarians are.

Although there are a few fairly intelligent carnivores out there. One of which is Obama!

      Meat IS murder. (Score:0)
So , humans farm, kill and eat animals simply because they can, as humans are a stronger species. We have the decision on the life and death of animals - so humans 'play God'. It could be argued that this is nature's way. But my opinion is this; we don't actually need to eat meat - there are other foodstuffs that fill our tummies and can provide just as much nutrition or protein. We eat meat because we can - we tolerate the killing of animals just because we're a bit peckish, which is wrong! So, as well as the meat industry being a proven environmentally unsound practice, what exactly gives us the right to behave like a bunch of Nazis to every lesser species on this planet? We simply don't need to eat meat - we just do it because we like it, which is dispicable. Murdering defenceless humans is cruel, and so is murdering defenceless animals. Think about it!
