This is sort of a big deal actually. Being an American, and music fan since out of the womb (circa mid-1970s), I've been known to glance at Rolling Stone and their silly lists from time to time. In all my life, I have only once seen Morrissey on any of their 'best' lists (the other time was when The Smiths debut was on their top 100 albums of the 1980's list). The fact that Morrissey is getting recognition from Rolling Stone this late in his career only proves his greatness. Of course, we all know that he's the best singer alive, and Elvis is the best of all time. When's the last time you listened to 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'? Shame on you.

Though of course Morrissey, to me, should be number 1, if you think about it, really ... he is actually here being listed as number 92 out of everyone who has ever sang - probably 500,000 if not higher, and probably half the people who are above him here are dead. 92 out of all the millions of singers. Morrissey... ranked in the 90s? That right there is a prime example of an artist not getting the respect he deserves.

Now I, like most of you, am a Moz fanboy... but it's not biased to say that this ranking is outrageous. If he were ranked top 50 and I had an issue with that, that would be biased, but to put one of the most influential and talented singer/songwriters of the past 30 years barely on the list is abhorrable at best. The man croons like Sinatra, Elvis, Bowie, and TRex all together in one package; I mean, he's our generation's Sinatra dammit!

Without Morrissey, rock and roll as we know it today would be much different. Many of the credible bands that make up rock's current backbone beyond the commercial acts have been heavily influenced by Morrissey, especially with regard to lyrics and the important role they play now. Rock and roll music mostly used to be about banging girls, drinking, being wreckless, etc-rather gratifying subjects but ultimately meaningless when compared to life's real struggles.

The Smiths and Morrissey, as part of a greater indie movement (that eventually spilled over as the grunge era in america) spat in the face of vapid hair metal with lyrical depth set to beautiful chords, impeccable rhythm, and jangly hooks. Indeed, you now need just listen to hear Morrissey's broad influence; from laying foundation for grunge rock to being the inspiration behind every emo band since 2000.

Sure, he didn't do it alone... but what he has done, and continues to do, has to at least get you out of the lowly 90s. I wouldn't be surprised if this list was full of nonsense; just guessing but Scott Stapp of Creed is ranked isn't he? KidRock maybe? Sorry, to get off on a long rant here but numerous musicians, famous and not, cite Moz as a driving influence in their work. A-and did I mention he's our generation's Sinatra?! Jesus Christ...
