This is incredible for New Zealand Morrissey fans.

Morrissey has only been to New Zealand once. He played here in 1991, giving concerts in Wellington (the capital city) and Auckland (the biggest city). And he hasn't been back since, so New Zealand Morrissey fans such as myself have had to travel far (normally to Europe) to see him live.

Unfortunately Morrissey doesn't have a large following in this country - it's definitely a cult following. There has never been much airplay or promotion for him here. So it'd be very interesting to see how tickets sell - particularly for Dunedin (where I live) which only has a population of about 120,000 but is very much a university city with a strong cultural element - but unfortunately January is our summer vacation time, so most students are out of town. Very, very few significant artists travel this far south. I think it's the most southern city in the world.

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to the concerts here in the four main cities (barring cancellations...) and will make sure the events are well covered for this website.

Well, this is great news! Wasn't sure if I'd ever get to see Morrissey in concert again, living down under and all - and now he's planning to play in New Zealand in 2009. Couldn't be happier. Expect a detailed report at Lucky Lisp.

Yay! My wish came true! Time to book a plane ticket from Melbourne to Sydney as one concert just isn't enough. Will first have to get over a fear of flying after a recent plane explosion experience with Qantas - only for Moz will I ever board a plane again.

I just love his face. Not to mention his love of animals, his talent, his honesty and his subtle (yet lovable) neuroses. To think of 10 years ago; those years I spent in my teens learning guitar and plugging away in a band I hated just so I could one day make it big and meet him. Didn't work - I just ended up working at the Tax Office!

Just so happy he is returning. After seeing him at the Perth gig in '02 I was convinced he hated Australians and would never return. I came close to ever-so-loudly reassuring him that we're not all cruel to animals here and that some of us are vegetarian and animal advocates right alongside him. He sang so wonderfully and had a fantastic stage presence at that concert.

Off to wipe this grin from my face - it just won't budge. Pardon the delirious rambling; just so stoked!!!

it seems like ages since I saw him in Sydney 2002 and I guess it is! and it was even longer to wait before that when he didn't show. I am in Berlin now but I will be home soon :)

I have heard that you can get flights there for about $2,000 but generally closer to $3,000. I am from Philadelphia and I am going to start to look into this and most likely do the Australia shows and quite possibly New Zealand as well. Any US fans down to travel together?

New Zealand/Australian fans - anybody I could possibly network with? Driving from shows, getting lunch together, showing me some sights, letting me sleep on their floor etc. etc. If anyone is potentially interested, that would be amazing! I can bring gifts and stories from America, and can gladly return the favor if you ever make your way over here. :)

As I begin to make my plans for these shows, I recached out to my friends in Australia. They replied back and didn't have any news on the shows yet, but speculated that he is probably playing a big show called "Big Day Out". There is a bunch of artists on it already which were part of the first announcement. There is a second announcement coming soon, and my friends tell me that they expect Morrissey to be a part of that announcement. The festival already features NEIL YOUNG, ARCTIC MONKEYS, THE LIVING END, THE PRODIGY, SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM, MY MORNING JACKET, PENDULUM, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, TV ON THE RADIO, SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO, THE TING TINGS, TIKI TAANE, CUT COPY, COG, YOUTH GROUP, THE GRATES, BIRDS OF TOKYO, TZU and EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING and a whole lot more.
