"Meetings With Morrissey" criticised In Q Magazine
posted by davidt on Tuesday September 09 2008, @10:00AM

An anonymous person writes:
Len Brown's biography has come under fire in the September issue of Q magazine. Dorian Lynskey, who interviewed Morrissey for The Guardian back in 2004,argues the book is "fundamentally flawed" because of Brown's "20-year relationship" with the artist. He accuses the ex-NME journalist of "having no flair for narrative" and also complains that Brown "fudges the issue of the singer's contentious statements about national identity". The review awards the book three stars but is headlined "Friend Of Mozzer Pens Biography - Thorny Subjects Ignored".

Well, what do you expect? David Quantick actually works for Q mag. He is the one who SLAUGHTERED Morrissey earlier on this year. He is a *fat* meat-eating bastard, a wanna-be writer / journalist.

We've got no time for him.

He is a saddo.

Take my word.

I have no opinion one way or another about this book but if Q magazine are criticizing it, then it must be a classic!
Q are a bad joke that won't go away.

You couldn't afford the backhander that Q ask for a good review? You've let the Moz down.

        This is great!!

So, because the journalist who wrote a book on Moz has a different take/ oppinion from the people of Q magazine, the book is flawed ?? oh, wait ... the real reason is because he knows Moz for 20 years - wow! isn't that shocking?

It would be so much better to have some half-brained kid who knows nothing about the artist or say, music in general, to write the book. Specially if he could write the views of certain journalists on "controversial" issues.
        Hilarious! :D

The anonymous person who posted this story (is that you again Len?) fails to mention that it's actually a fair review - 3 out of 5 is not a slag off. Although the review does point out some of the book's flaws - if, as it says, Brown refers to Paddy Ashdown as the lead singer of Prefab Sprout then it deserves all the ridicule it gets - it also praises it in places.

Either way, the story on this site is just to give Brown's book some extra publicity. The suggestion that every time some journalist or magazine criticises anything to do with Morrissey is somehow "agenda-based" rather than professional opinion is nonsense. These conspiracy theories are getting boring...

As a previous poster has said, the review is very fair and even handed and in no way makes the reader think "I'll avoid that book".

Get over yourselves, not everyone worships blindly at the alter of Moz; even fans of 25 years, let alone reviewers!
