Not sure if this is old news, but it looks like Johnny Marr has been joining Peter Buck at a few of the recent REM/MM shows. Check it out at JMarr.com.

I saw them all at Berkeley's Greek back on June 1st. Great show! During the encore just before they played "Fall On Me," Michael Stipe announced that it had been specifically requested by one of the members of the other band that they "have tremendous respect for." Clearly that was Marr. I was so hoping that he'd come out to join them for a song that night, but it didn't happen. Guess we in CA just missed it. Great to see the video at least though!

REM haven't made a decent record for 16 years. No wonder they need to bring a legend like Johnny onstage in order to draw new fans to their tired shows. No wonder they have to rely on old classics like "Fall on Me" to temporarily suspend the yawns of their moribund fans. Sorry, Peter, but you lost it with "Monster", and never got it back.

I remember when the rumors of the Smiths (Morrissey) and REM working together were all the talk about town. That never turned out to be true but it was nice to dream it. A great song and it's good to see Marr on stage.

Seeing Johnny Marr onstage and thinking about Moz.

I'm not asking/wanting or dreaming of a Smiths thing but the truth is,right now in his career, Marr is the man for Moz. They belong together. Especially as Morrissey's music continues to decline with the band and the lame songs he has recorded the last number of years.
I don't think it's too late for a collaboration once again. Something new, something different and something that's not the Smiths. I guarantee it would be terrific. It's nice to think about at least.
