Wanna be in my gang? - The Guardian

It is one thing to love a person's music - quite another to try and physically resemble that person while watching them perform in concert. Chuck Klosterman on the uber-fans

Excerpt:

As I've said, I am not an authentic fanatic; I lack grit. But I spend a lot of time thinking about fanatics and I've concluded that the following 10 artists have the most dedicated, least rational fan followings:

1. Slayer
2. Tori Amos
3. Sublime
4. Kiss
5. Bruce Springsteen
6. Black Sabbath (particularly the Tony Martin era, for some reason)
7. Jimmy Buffett
8. Iron Maiden
9. Guided By Voices
10. Morrissey

I've never even heard of them. Terrible name for a pop group.

Torn Anus is on this list? (Score:1)
She is disgusting beyond words, the looniest most pretentious woman I have ever had the displeasure to be subjected to. I understand, on a certain level, the devotion her fans feel because she is, like Morrissey, very insular and unique, but...with her, unlike with Morrissey, it is just in the most unbearable, useless way. Her newest album reveals that she has divided herself into five seperate ego-selves to be able to tell all of the "song stories."

She does have a few decent songs, come to think of it, and she CAN actually play and sing, but again...she is a bit off. And not in a good way.

New-age nutjob, at the end of the day.

Who's that?
As for Sublime, they were great. Definitely a band that was ended too early by drugs.

Beatles??? Didn't they inspire the world to have Beatles haircuts and a fan so obsessed that he shot John Lennon. No 1 surely. Morrissey at no 2.

It's funny (and perhaps not wrong) that all the comments here seem to be treating the 'most irrational fanbase' thing as some kind of accolade.

Just to put in my two pence worth, I like Tori Amos. Also, The Guardian is a big heap of self-satisfied shit written by condescending prigs who think they represent a bastion of intelligence in Britain when all they represent is narrow-minded mediocrity. They should all be slaughtered. "Hey, I'm Mr Rational, and today I'm going to dissect these strange, irrational, sub-human creatures known as 'fans'." Fuck off.
