MUSIC MIRACLE - NY Post

May 10, 2008 -- CHRISSY Hynde, Morrissey and British rock god Jeff Beck set up shop in the lobby of the Sunset Marquis in LA the other day for an impromptu concert. "They were jamming," said our spy. "But many of the guests just walked by. They played for four hours, and then Julian Lennon joined them. Some younger types walked by as if they were total losers trying to get a record deal." But soon they were recognized, and the lobby was crowded with fans.

Jeff Beck is a big rockabilly fan (Score:0)
He did a tribute album a few years ago to Cliff Gallup, Gene Vincent's guitarist (on the early records). So there's a commonality between him and Morrissey. I don't imagine Moz is very familiar with Jeff's jazz fusion repertoire though.

So Chrissy Hymen and Morrissey are singing and Beck is jamming on a guitar, then Julian Lennon shows up what the hell sense does that make? Surely someone could have made this a little more believable. Oh by the way I think they forgot to mention Willie Nelson showed up and and they really jammed.

                Hi Everyone,

Re the rumour ("NY Post report" - May 12) the facts are very simple.

I was forewarned by Chrissy Hynde that Julian Lennon had told the Sunset Marquis that he was coming to LA, was staying in the same hotel as Morrissey and intended to "set up shop" in the lobby and have a "jam" session. The implication was that this was a mischievous move to promote a rumour that would purposely serve to make Morrissey fans feel even more "uncomfortable" then usual while he is in LA making a new album.

What Jullian did'nt know is that I have a very good relationship with Jeff Beck and when I explained the situation to Jeff he agreed to help. When Julian arrived Chrissy and Jeff met him at the door and courteously pointed him to the hotel piano situated beside the bar.

They jammed for about twenty four hours and some young men (I think they were Blur actually!) walked by. However, they were total losers trying to get a record deal and I arranged for them to be relocated.

Morrissey was not in the bar and was not even aware of the situation or my tactical moves until afterwards. In fact Morrissey has never even met or laid eyes on Julian Lennon.

                I am an ass!

                Best wishes,
                Merck
