James McAvoy of the empowering message of 'Penelope'
by Betsu Pickle - SCRIPPS HOWARD NEWS SERVICE, Daily Herald

Excerpt:

And the film, set in the 1980s, had a "phenomenal soundtrack" featuring the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears, the Smiths and more.

"The story behind the soundtrack for that was that we couldn't afford such a great soundtrack because those tunes cost a lot of money," says McAvoy. "Morrissey doesn't really let his songs out for less than a ... lot of money, and neither do the Cure.

"But the lead singer for the Cure came along, saw the film, liked it so much and he was originally going to try and score some of the music, but it didn't work out due to other commitments, and he said, 'Yeah, you can have lots of our songs.'

"As soon as he did that, everybody from the '80s, including Morrissey, was like, 'Yeah, you can have our music. Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. Have it cheap.' So it was great."

and then Moz started paying "Raspberry Beret" on the fiddle while roller skating. the last bit about Morrissey sounds 110% made up.

    Russell Brand Connection (Score:0)
Haven't seen this film yet, but Russell Brand is listed in the credits on IMDB.
It also says that this movie was from 2006, must have been up on the shelf for quite a while!

I saw the movie A couple of days ago. I thought it was pretty good for what it was. I didn't hear any Smiths song. I sat through the credits and did not see the Smiths listed. I just checked Amazon and they are not on the soundtrack either. I know not every song is on the soundtrack but anyway. The credits go by pretty fast so I could have missed it but.... You think I would have heard the song when they used it. If they did use the song what scene is it in and what song did they use? Thanks.....Quentin

that's a lie for a start. Morrissey hates The Cure, and with good reason (they're shit), and 'Tears For Fears' bloody hell! Utter shite. Bunnymen's good though (well most of their stuff was/is...sometimes)

Robert Smith saves the day. First he killed off a horrible Barbara Streisand, and now he saves the Penelope soundtrack from utter peril. He's a bloody genius!

Morrissey and Robert Smith have more in common than they, or any of Morrissey's pathetically sycophantic fans want to believe. Watching them slur each other like two dippy queens in a fashion contest is mildly amusing.

Christina Ricci is a terrible actress. She is about as convincing as your average high school theater student. More importantly, her head looks like it was impaled, and then inflated by a bicycle pump.
