Mystery of Pally's 10-night supergig - Muswell Hill Journal

Excerpt:

One music industry observer, Rob Fitzpatrick, associate editor of Word Magazine based in Islington, said people there thought the most likely acts included Radiohead, The White Stripes and Morrissey, who earlier this month cancelled three nights of a six-night residency at Camden's Roundhouse venue.

Mr Fitzpatrick said: "I can sort of imagine someone like Morrissey doing 10 nights at a place like that. It is not a sort of heritage venue, like the Royal Albert Hall, and it is not a big money-spinner like the O2, which is built to get as many people in as possible in a small space.

Have you ever heard of Morrissey booking gigs this far in advance? In all my years as a gigging fan (back to The Smiths days) I've never known it.

Look elsewhere for the likely act.

Moz ends up canceling half the gigs. Why does he going through with these 10 night gigs?

Would require a seriously successful new album. (Score:0)
Moz currently doesn't have the fan base to sell out a UK arena tour, never mind a 10-date residency at a venue of this size.

This story assumes that it's one act. But sjm are one of the biggest (if not the) in the country and there are always gigs at Ali Pali near xmas (2007 we had Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys). So it could be a few on the trot more than likely.

There's also Oasis - new album out this year and one of the few bands who could do Ali Pali x 10. Realistically, Morrissey couldn't sell out Ali Pali x 10, even with the support of the diehards.

According to the article the venue is booked between 3 Dec and 12 Dec, ten straight days. Morrissey never plays more than 3 days in a row. His pattern is something like 2 on, 1 off, 3 on 2 off, so the venue would need booking for at least 14 to 15 days for Mogsy to have a 10 day run. Nope not our Mozzy.
