In the current issue of Irish music magazine 'Hotpress' (14th November 2007), Morrissey and Marr appear on the cover presaging a special feature on “The Greatest Indie Band of Them All: Johny Marr and Stephen Street on the extraordinary legacy of The Smiths”. It is available on subscription at - www.hotpress.com, (see upper right corner).

In the hard copy, the article runs from pages 26 to 29, compiled by Paul Nolan. It ties together recent interviews with both Marr and Street. Some background is provided about the influence of the band; a contemplation on their Irish roots; and a tracing of their formation up to their breakthrough on Top of the Pops with ‘This Charming Man’ about which Marr comments: “It was an odd record, it was brilliant, and Morrissey was unveiled to the public, which I was totally, and am still in favour of, in case anyone’s wondering”.

The input of Stephen Street is described mainly in the man’s own words, from his time as engineer and later as producer. He stressed that working with the band, all of them, “was very inspiring”, and that they were very close. The narrative flicks between Street and Marr on the different changes wrought with each new album, until the split and some negativity arising from that. At present the two have been in touch in the past year, primarily it seems, about a possible box set of alternative mixes and back catalogue ‘stuff’. (You’d easily know it’s not an interview with Morrissey!) Marr elaborates – “What it is, basically, is there’s versions of the songs that are really stripped down as we recorded them as live takes…loads of live stuff that fans had given to me on the road and all of that, which for a long time was like kryptonite to me”. (Eh?!)

There are a couple more not-so-rare photographs, and an inset of Marr with Modest Mouse, plus text on their progress.

Sorry I’m not in a position to scan this, but someone else might oblige?

The live stuff that fans used to give mild mannered Mr Marr drained him of his powers!!

Unrelated...

Does anyone think the LIVE IN DALLAS DVD is a very embarassing performance? I mean... despite the fact that we all love it because that's as close as we could get to seeing him at the time.

The TV appearances are terrible around 91-92 as well. Almost like he couldn't sing and the band couldn't even tune their instruments! Check out the Johnny Carson thing on You Tube!

He is SOO much better now at live performances. Maybe that's what the "Time Off" was really about. Or at least he put the time to good use.

Thanks.

So, will this dvd be in the porn section? (Score:0)
What crap. What did they get paid- a whole 5k each to put this crap dvd together? Waste of time and money for two "has-been" former Smiths.

There is a DVD about The Smiths called "Inside The Smiths". Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke make a large contribution to this DVD.
Morrissey and Johnny Marr don't feature much.

do you have to be in to scan something? At least partially erect I would imagine so you would see the object's orientation on the scanner glass, unless of course you have a motorised feed...
