EXCLUSIVE FEUD ALERT! Madonna AND HER SON Ripped By Morrissey! - 24Sizzler.com

Morrissey lashed out at Madonna -- and her adopted son David! -- at his concert in Norfolk, Virginia, last night, 24Sizzler.com has exclusively learned.

According to 24Sizzler.com's spy, the eco-friendly rocker told concert-goers about fur-loving Madonna, "I wouldn't be surprised if she [Madonna] made that African boy into a coat and wore him ... for 15 minutes, and then threw it away."

Morrissey balanced his unkind words for Madonna, with kind words for PETA, which he supports: "You haven't even heard what I'm gratified about yet," said the singer, reports the 24Sizzler.com spy. "I'm very gratified to be so close to the international headquarters of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

However, having said that, and being a musical snob, I have to admit that I liked 'Confessions on a Dance Floor'. It's the first time I've enjoyed her music since the 80's. Mind you, I caught a bit of her performance at Live Earth, and she looked and sounded bloody awful.

Madonna just put out a new song in "the defense of nature" that just sounded so lame and lazily constructed that I pressed the stop button before the song finished. One of the things that intrigue me about Madonna is that she IS a talented artist but prone to selling her image in the cheapest possible way to the media. I even have her latest CD, and enjoyed it, but going to one of her shows is just not something that appeals to me: there is no message she sends, just a lot of fancy images. I believe where there is a beginning of awareness in her, she baffles with a mega-star attitude. Adopting foreign children is OK, as long as it is a gesture that doesn't reveal itself too much as a Hollywood trend like it is now: everyone in Hollywood was first having babies: every female in Hollywood was getting and displaying a round belly for photographers to fill magazines with. Now, adopting babies is the new fashion: Angelina Jolie with Brad Pitt and a couple of African kids, followed immediately by Madonna. And it's not just adoption that is working as a magnetic force that attracts news: Oprah has recently opened a school for girls in Africa. Well, why didn't she do this before? Are women celebrities discovering JUST NOW the "spiritual benefits" of helping a child? Why didn't they help before, or at different stages in their glorious careers? The whole thing is just pathetic, like politicians donating money to fix a road to score more points in the next election. Morrissey is right to joke because the whole thing is a sad joke.

Not like anything from Moz isn't complex, but this one definitely gave me pause to think. Regardless of Madonna being whatever (is she worth discussion?), Morrissey said this in context of the perspective that animals of any genus are on par with humans (ie., "I don't eat my friends.") He basically is saying Madonna's just jumping on the Jolie-Pitt adoption bandwagon for publicity's and popularity's sake (not to help raise awareness of the consequences of war and human atrocity. Wearing fur, how could she?) and unfortunately a human life is concerned. He is saying she doesn't inherently care about life. Because she chose a black baby as a white woman (with an otherwise white family... ok, so Lourdes is half-Latino, don't ask why I remember these things!), there's no way to avoid sticky racial implications just at any mention of the adoption... which could be Madge's intention. Publicity and taboo, even in motherhood.

Well, Moz, once this gets out to wider press (in print is always worse and nearly always out of context), you will have given both you and your beloved Madge publicity. Who hasn't benefitted by public wars between legendary figures in pop? At face value, I think what he said is monstrous, but I don't believe he means it the way most of us super race-self-conscious Americans (myself included) initially think. (Hey, it's just the way we are because of our histories together, if we're aware of the history.) Moz is not American, however, and he's coming from a very different place in heart. It's much deeper and beyond race. It's a strong thing to say. Will the wider world understand? Oh dear Moz (sigh)...

On the documentary about him, TIOBM, he likened society's exploitation of animals to child abuse because we are supposed to care about them and treat them with consideration but instead their pain caused by systematised cruelty falls largely on deaf ears. "It's just all abuse", he said; probably a philosophical contention in circulation amongst rights ethicists. (Incidentally a newish book called "God is not Great; how religion poisons everything" by Christopher Hitchens includes a chapter about religion as child abuse)

So in referring to this child, presumably Morrissey was implying that if Madonna could sacrifice human pets for her clothes, the Malawian family might be losing David to more than Madonna's parental embrace?! It was about outing her for modelling bad attitudes to animals, not about faulting her choice to adopt.

If you've ever been to her concerts (or seen them on DVD), you know that there is more to the show than just her. It is a total and full circus act of dancers, imagery, artistic direction that have wider cultural relevance and impact than just one person singing and flailing about. She addressed wider social issues like AIDS and gender identification before it was popular to do so that go beyond her own personal neurotic needs. Plus, if you've ever seen her documentary, she is a brilliant and savvy business woman as well as an entertainer that reaches a wider mass audience which is all one can hope for as an entertainer. Her concerts were always sold out and I don't recall them ever being cancelled, and she performed to the full tilt without a sick day perhaps because she is so physically, mentally, and spiritually fit and grounded. A consummate professional and in terms of health alone, a role model for young women and men, a far better one than the alternatives we have today. The controversy is unfounded and she is so huge that she really can't be bothered by anyone's opinion of her. The funny thing about her being compared to organized prostitution is that you can compare any commercial artist, including all "pop" singers to that of a prostititute whoring her/himself night after night to the demands of their audience. If you recall the cover of the first Smiths cover, it is a close-up of a young male hustler in the Andy Warhol movie Flesh. And whenever she was on Letterman, she was far more entertaining and created more buzz and furor than any "pop" star has ever been or ever will be. Her career has been a brilliant manipulation of the media rather than the other way around which explains why she has lasted for so long.

I think Morrissey was really just (over)stating the obvious. That's the only great thing about getting old - you can say what you like with impunity. It almost compensates for the sagging jowls and the urinary incontinence. Let him have his fun.
