Mark Simpson on reports that Moz has 'come out'

'I wasn't aware that Morrissey had 'come out' as Elton John. Or gay, for that matter. ...The commercial success of his return in the last few years - much greater than any he had with The Smiths - has led to people paying him attention who never took the time before. Oh look! 'Ringleader of the Tormentors' has some saucy lines in it that seem to suggest bumming! Hold the presses! Morrissey has come out as a big gayer!

As anyone who's been paying attention since the early 80s can tell you, if they have their teeth in, Morrissey was never 'in'. His lyrics and his album sleeves and his sensibility were, from the very beginning, outrageously, molestingly direct. Much more so, arguably, than if he had announced he was gay on John Craven's Newsround.'

I am not sure who this guy is other than just some bloke who writes a blog. (On a topic of people not particularly relevant-check out my blog). His posting on Manscaping is interesting.

If you read on, Mark writes "It’s a heroic refusal that, as far as I’m aware, he continues to make." Let's hope this post doesn't bring out the homophobes.

Maybe if people stopped obessing about it Morrissey will let us know at his own convience.
    I don't care either way.

If he's straight..cool I can indulge my fantasy of marrying him..
If he's gay cool..no other woman can have it.
It works for me either way.

On a less relevant note I suspect Mark Simpson has been hanging around with one of my gay male friends, for whom the phrase 'a big gayer' is a favourite. Well, it makes me smile.

The only people who actually believe that Morrissey isn't a confirmed homosexual are naive, female Morrissey fans who fall in love with homosexuals, and homophobic, male Morrissey fans who think that they will be deemed gay if it ever officially comes over the news wire.

Both are a Morrissey fan versions of the flat earth society. More importantly, if you don't think that understanding a person's sexuality is important in understanding the person in general, then you might need to go take an introductory Pyschology course. It reminds of when feminists tried to claim that gender is formed solely by the environment.

Moz has been hinting at his homosexuality since the band formed. It's blindingly obvious.

The whole "I'm bisexual" stance is usually the last stage that a homosexual goes through when accepting that they are homosexual. Besides, just because someone refuses to claim the title of "homosexual" doesn't mean that they're denying their devotion to it. In Morrissey's case, he's likely denying any label period, for the sake of his mythological persona.

Morrissey has always been the very opposite of direct- not juste about his sexuality, but on all manner of subjects save perhaps vegetarianism and animal rights. he has always been, quite consciously, ambiguous, vague, misleading and coy in his art.

now, of course, it should be plain for anyone to see that Morrissey is not the straightest of arrows, but to suggest that this is made direct or clear in his art, while posing as some kind of an aficionado no less, is rather to make clear that you understand very little.

But why is it so hard to imagine a hetrosexual man being interested in homosexual culture and using it in their art. I am a hetrosexual man but i find the whole palare type culture interesting. When youre from a working class background where everyone gets a job, gets married has kids and then retires and dies alternative lifestyles sound very appealing. Lots of the glamrock stars of the early 70s morrissey grew up with did the same thing and became the first "metrosexuals". None of the new york dolls were gay. And anyway morrissey used to fancy sandi shaw, linder sterling and that girl from brookside who he was flirting with on tv in the late 80s.
