Morrissey's stay in Rome hotels - holymoly.co.uk

Horn to Bang, Walnut Creek writes:
From the holymoly.co.uk weekly mailout:

Freeloaders Of The World, Unite

Morrissey apparently insisted on recording his last album in Rome. Fair enough, it has superb recording facilities; so the moping Manc took a room in the city's finest five star hotel, despite being offered a luxury flat on the banks of the Tiber.

The singer (now beginning to resemble a down-on-his luck barber in the first stages of alcoholism) arrived in Rome early for his recording stint. Two months early, in fact, all spent running up a huge hotel bill and waiting for the pre-booked studio time to arrive.

Naturally, he felt unable to share a hotel with his band and producer Tony Visconti, who were housed at a somewhat lesser establishment (what a charming man, etc). The rigours of singing for a few hours a day so exhausted the frail Morrissey that he was forced to recuperate for a further two months in his hotel suite, bringing his time in the luxury accommodation to a marvellous seven months. And so, possibly for the first time in history, an album cost more in hotel bills than studio time.

This is almost as good as Johnny Rogan's or the Sun's "journalism"! How do we know he spent more on hotel bills than studio recording? I want to see receipts and spreadsheets, damnit! ; p If he did spend more on hotels, so what?

Clearly the sniping article was intended to present Morrissey in a negative light. The title of the article suggests that Morrissey was enjoying luxury at someone else's expense. Well, that expense was his own. Either the writer doesn't understand how recording budgets/contracts work, or does and just wants to make Morrissey look bad.

When artists sign for $4 million, the record company doesn't just fork over $4 simply because the artist is fabulous. That is $4 million the artist now OWES to the company; the record company simply acts as a finance company with really bad terms. Out of the x million budget, the artist is supposed to pay for the production of the album or whatever product, touring, personnel salaries, etc. Anything leftover is the artist's profit. But a lot of artists (especially young ones) don't spend their budget wisely, and they end up owing the record company everything including their souls...and then the greedy company says, "Well, you can sell us the rights to your songs...your back catalog" and the next thing you know, the song you poured your sweat, blood, and tears into is selling Nikes, cars, or fizzy high fructose corn syrup water. Then you go back to your day job or take up a drug habit and die.

So if Moz wants to spend more money staying at a posh hotel for several months than he does on the recording of the album, that's up to him. It's his money. I don't get it. Who's he freeloading from? Himself? OMFG, stop the presses!

What makes me even more sick is that they know Morrissey has not been feeling well and it seems like the press and money grubbing scammers like Mike Gross just want to add stress and psychological abuse directed at Morrissey in their pathetic attempts to try and break his psyche down. You see when you are feeling sick, the last thing you need is negative thoughts and negative feelings thrown your way. I think that’s what these losers would like to see happen. But it won’t – because psychology won’t work with Morrissey.

Listen Mr. “author” of this display of psychological abuse and lies, let me make this as perfectly clear to you as you can possibly understand it - you weirdo - Morrissey is a tall strikingly attractive man who looks amazing for his age and if he wants to drink – then what the hell. What the hell is life for, anyways. Morrissey is not obligated to put his band members up in the same place he is – it’s his right to do with his money whatever he wants, whenever he wants, if he wants. And furthermore “frail and exhausted”? you try being in your 40s and touring all over the world the way Morrissey does so impeccably well. I mean, he has a few years on me and I could never do it. It is both physically and psychologically exhausting to travel from place to place to place with people demanding so much of your time and energy.

Well I think I’ve given this psychological abuser “author” too much of my time. I’m going now to put on my 17/43 baby blue which supernaturally but literally and miraculously did remain intact - somehow and go off to the pub to resume my 2nd step of my newly attained “alcoholism”. HA

To all you supporters on this message board – may God be with you and Morrissey --- God bless you.
