MORRISSEY + MARR HEAL RIFT, BUT NEVER DISCUSS SMITHS REUNION

Former THE SMITHS rockers MORRISSEY and JOHNNY MARR still socialise together despite falling out after the band's demise - but they've never discussed reforming the legendary group. Guitarist Marr claims neither he nor Morrissey has ever brought up the subject of resurrecting The Smiths, who acrimoniously split in 1987. Marr says, "I still hang out with Morrissey from time to time and we talk about many things, but that subject never comes up. "There'd be no good reason to discuss it now. All our lives have moved on. In positive and interesting ways, I'd like to think." The news comes as something of a surprise to fans of the band - in May (07), Marr revealed how he wished he could be friends with Morrissey. He said, "It is a shame that we can't be friends... he slags me off too much. I'd definitely prefer to be on nice terms with everyone. Why waste all that energy."

I think it's pretty obvious that Johnny is desperate for The Smiths to reform, because he needs the money. Yet he's too proud to admit it in public. I don't want them to get back together. Mozza's been going downhill in recent years, and Marr's fall from grace has been even worse. Let sleeping dogs lie, and let us treasure the memories.

Rourke and Joyce will never be back in...but I, an arch pessimist who loves Morrissey's solo work as much if not more than the Smiths stuff, and doesn't care either way...even I believe it's a matter of time before the two of them reconvene artistically. As Morrissey and Marr, not as The Smiths. Even Johnny predicted this years ago.

Or, Morrissey could keep pumping out such forgettables as "That's How People Slow Up" and "All You Need Is New Musicians"...

Either way, is he ever really going to be as important as he once was? Nah.
