Less is Morr-issey for moody crooner - Boston Herald

Morrissey has become the Goldilocks of pop.

It was too hot at Tuesday’s Bank of America Pavilion show, which he canceled after seven songs.

It was too cold at his “Late Show With David Letterman” taping earlier in the week.

And right now there’s no word on when it will be just right for him to return for a Boston makeup show.

The British crooner complained to the Pavilion crowd that he was suffering from “Letterman throat” after performing in the CBS talk show host’s chilly studio.

“Unfortunately, it will not just be the emotions cracking tonight, but my voice as well,” he told disappointed fans.

In a statement released yesterday by promoter Live Nation, a Morrissey spokesperson said the singer is suffering from a throat infection and was ordered by his doctor not to sing for three days, forcing postponements of a show at Northampton’s Pines Theater last night and one tomorrow in Philadelphia. The tour should resume Saturday at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The former lead singer of England’s Smiths, who is known to fanatical followers as the Mozzer, hopes to reschedule this week’s canceled shows.

While tickets to the short Boston show will presumably be honored when it is rescheduled, many fans remain displeased. While some posters to online message boards have forgiven their idol, others are fuming - and speculate that “postponed” in this case is a euphemism for canceled. Even if Morrissey and Live Nation - who said more information will be released within 24 hours - can reschedule the Boston show, fans who flew to Boston from the West Coast, England and South America will be unable to recoup their investment.

An announcement at Tuesday’s concert inviting everyone to come see Morrissey at his rescheduled show was greeted with boos and one shout of, “We can’t if we came from Argentina to see this show.”

    It Must Be Nice (Score:1)
It must be nice to go through one's entire life without illness of any kind. For heaven's sake, Morrissey TRIED to do the show. If you were present and in the midst of the show he had to stop then be disappointed, but for him to risk permanent damage to his voice (i.e. his livelihood) is absurd to ask of someone. I know some fans will not be able to make the rescheduled dates but life is unfair but don't blame Morrissey for that. I'm sure he was looking forward to the MSG show as much as anyone. I wouldn't have been surprised if they pro-shot that show as well.

Let him rest, have his Airborne and Nyquil and he'll be back when his body is ready.

P.S. Touring in and of itself must be exhausting.

Some people just have to whine about everything. We have tickets to MSG, and I'm glad they postponed it, even though we didn't find out about it until we were there (teach us not to check the status before hopping on the PATH to NYC). I would rather wait and see a good show than see a crappy one because the dude is sick. I just hope it's not rescheduled during my vacation when we'll be out of the area...

It is not so hard to figure out: too hot + too cold = throat infection.

The Boston Herald is one of the most sensationalistic and gossipy newspapers in Boston - probably just loosing to the tabloids, like National Enquire. Even Boston Metro was more respectful than that by point out that "Morrissey regrettably had to end his show at Boston's Bank of America Pavillon last night after 30 minutes due to a throat infection that made it impossible for him to continue."

I emailed the writer and told him that Morrissey had rescheduled it and Morrissey was unlike Goldilocks who was never seen again.

He wrote back and was classy and his email said, "I hear you, he's the man for coming back so soon."

I don't know if he will put that in print and I didn't send him some viscious email. It was a pretty friendly exchange.

He's just doing his job and the too hot, too cold Goldilocks thing would have been pretty funny if it was about Axl instead of Moz.

Why why why do journalists STILL reference The Smiths when speaking about him? If people don't know who Morrissey is by now, then I doubt mentioning his 80's band is going to help jog the memory.

What an idiot. And I'm sure that being in a cold studio didn't help at all, nor does the hot weather, which all affect the vocal chords as well as one's health. I hate being overly hot or cold myself and am sure that it was incredibly unpleasant to try and perform in that kind of environment. He did try his best to let the show go on, but his throat obviously had other plans. Hope Morrissey is feeling much better now!! :)
