i don't see how morrissey could put his former greatest hits on the same cd along with the two new songs, one which is mediocre and the other total shit. can morrissey not see the difference in quality?

Yeah, I know, "reissue, reissue, repackage," but if Morrissey put out studio versions of All You Need is Me and That's How People Grow Up on yet another greatest hits CD, I'd buy it for two main reasons. First, I heard All You Need is Me in Salt Lake and thought it was great. Second, I'd like to hear what his current band sounds like in the studio--they are fantastic (sorry Gary/Alain).

Plus, there is a whole new generation of people getting into Moz right now, and a new greatest hits collection would be a great way to connect them with the "current" Moz they probably know (YATQ and ROTT) as well as familiarize them with "classic" Moz that we all know and love (Viva Hate through Vauxhaul).

Are we to believe he signed a Smiths album???? I thought he never did that anymore. Solo material yes...Smiths no.

Here's hoping the new songs are on I-tunes for 99 cents each.

No more "Greatest Hits," "Best Of," and "World of's." As a fan through the decades, I think this is going to turn off the core fans immediatly. I stopped collecting the compilations after the Rhino collection. Will a new track get the collectors to buy another disc?

Doubtful.

Maybe three or four will do the trick. But one track, a handful of B-sides we all have and the singles off Quarry and Tormentor? What can one do? Just shrug the shoulders and look for it cheap on eBay.

Let's hope this talk of a Greatest Hits smash-and-grab is just a rumor.

that he's also recording All You Need Is Me, because I like that one a bit better.

I know he's had gazillions of compilations out in the past, but if he puts out a 2cd, chronolgical collection of all his solo singles, plus the new songs, I think that'd be a really nice, definitive collection to have. World of Morrissey and Early Burglary Years were just too messy, too randomly ordered :-(

Instead of another Best of, how about a disc full of studio demos, outtakes, live tracks, etc.

"Grow up" has a very weak and childish chorus. I suspect most fans would prefer a fully fleshed out "Easy To Get" would they not? "All You Need Is Me" is also superior to "Grow Up" in my opinion. Not to mention where exactly is the demand for yet another "Greatest Hits" coming from? I'd rather another live DVD even...

two roland spaces echoes and a korg? he can do really good reggae tracks with them.... or even goa music... time for a change.

This news item does say the new song has been recorded in Texas. Who added the bit about "Greatest Hits"?

It may not be Morrissey's choice as to whether he puts out a Greatest Hits or not; most record companies have te option of releasing one with or without the artists consent - afterall, they own the rights to those recorded versions of that artists songs.

Most artists record new material for Greatest Hits these days so that there is something new on there for people to listen to.

Someone who spoke to someone who spoke to someone who worked with Morrissey for a couple of days writes on his blog that Morrissey is releasing a Greatest Hits album and you all treat it as if it's a press release direct from Morrissey.

Are Morrissey fans the dumbest around?

Perhaps it could be that it is an album of all new songs and the album title is "Greatest Hits" with the implication that what he is recording new and now is his greatest work.

Moz visited Sugarland also to cheer up Amber from the Bachelor: An Officer & a Gentleman, because he felt bad for how she was humiliated on national TV. Moz is a sweety in Sugarland.

Where is the ROTT platinum edition then? I've got nothing better to do with my money than buying Morrissey's recordings over and over and over and over again.

Maybe Moz just think it's time to cash in. His last 'Best Of' didn't even sell that well. Maybe he sees this as his last chance to cash in on the American market. Regardless, he should have something new on the cd. If there are two new songs I will buy the cd.

As for the main page, there's a few good posters with quality comments. But remember...only a few.

Sounds amazing then, but does it really matter whether it is released on a compilation or on another album ?

In the end, it would be really nice to see Morrissey's musical catalogue produced and ordered onto some kind of substancial (ie. 2/3CD's) format containing some decent introductions/transcrptions and documentation and photographs, rather than a 14-track (199x-1996) complilation of those early works, that would really miss out on some of the best performances live (from Manchester, Sheffield, V and Glastonbury) plus two/three amazing albums (ROTT, YATQ and Trouble Loves Me) and those quality B sides (Jenson Interceptor et.al)

And 'hero' ? I wonder. And Reprise ?

There needs to be something fresh and different about the album if it is true that a GH hits is on its way.

Assuming it is going to be for the Xmas market? or is it going to be released now?

Personally this is what I would like.

1. The CD to be a ' vinyl' look to it , ie ROTT
2. Great artwork for once...we all know what Moz looks like so why not a great James Dean picture for the sleeve.
3. must be a gatefold sleeve but larger in size , 7" x 7" or similar.

I doubt...SINCERELY doubt that he is releasing an album tracks compilation. For one thing he would never call it ''greatest hits'' unless conceivably in jest. He POSSIBLY was involved with the Rhino comp, but he has pretty much spoken out against Burglary and World of. Had you taken those two comps and extracted JUST the tracks that were, up til those releases, rare b-sides, you would have had an excellent, World Won't Listen - quality disc. But there were ridiculous inclusions of previously released songs, the artwork/sleeve designs were lazy as FUCK....World of doesn't even include lyrics or break down the tracklisting enough to credit each musician specifically, and Burglary's lyric sheet looks like a retarded person assembled it. Some of the lyrics are missing and others are...just plain wrong.
So hopefully the title Greatest Hits is sarcastic and it is FINALLY a comprehensive rarities comp, but I doubt it. I don't care either way, except to get the new songs, since I have every odd belch he's ever committed to tape anyway. But it would be nice to see an official release with b-sides and/or sessions the way he USED to do with The Smiths...with a brilliant sleeve design and a thoughtfully laid out lyric sheet. I'm not gonna hold my breath, though.

This is a rumour. There will not be a Greatest Hits album.
