Little blurb about Morrissey in this article about an orange county local who's pretty high up in the PETA offices.

"One of his early coups was wrangling an interview with Morrissey, the lead singer of the Smiths and a staunch vegetarian, during the group's first U.S. tour with its "Meat Is Murder" album. They hit it off, and Morrissey agreed to help Mathews put together an album of pro-animal songs.

It's a classic Mathews idea that combines crusading for animal rights with pop culture and celebrity names."

This "orange county official" guy... could he be the one to supply randy ol' Swallowneck with free oranges during those desperate nights when he has an erection in his pants and a cool compress on his fevered brow???

I just ran across an article on Dan Matthew's new book "Committed: A Rabble-Rouser's Memoir."

It sounds utterly charming - the bio of a lighthearted trouble-maker with a lifelong committment to a very serious cause.

I know that Morrissey has only warm words for Mr. Matthews (didn't he call him "a good American" somewhere fairly recently)? There are also those photos of the two of them together that surfaced in the forum a while back. They seem to have much in common, including an unswerving dedication to the defense of the defenseless.

Anyway, before the anti-PETA rants begin, Mr. Matthews seems like a pretty likeable fellow.

      from a recent interview:

USA Today: Tell us about that first fish you caught.

Dan Matthews: Around the time I got beaten up for being gay, gasping for breath, surrounded by people looking down at me laughing, I caught a very big fish. When I pulled him on the boat, it was just an ugly flounder, and he was gasping for breath, too, and in that instance, the flounder was the only creature I could relate to. I had turned into the bully.

If Moz did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.
