This is why Hamlet wasn't a Smiths fan (Score:1)
Every retrospective becomes a war of must-have vs morality.

Is the film an 'expose' of relationships within the band (i.e. negativity and recrimination) or is it a celebration of their album making / touring with new footage? And either way, has Marr or Moz commented on it?

I can't right it off completely, because obviously, as a fan, I'm interested in what this film might contain. But also, as a fan, I'm concerned about the money making industry machine trotting out the same material again and again, only this time with pretty pink ribbons. I think some bloke from Manchester once wrote a song about this issue, which doesn't get quoted nearly enough ... unfortunately, the line in question escapes me.

And, obviously, being a droolingly slavish supporter of Morrissey (with absolutely no opinions of my own) the principle of giving money to a man who has gone out of his way to upset my hero, rankles somewhat.

In all honesty though, I can't get my head around the motivation of a man who claims to have no personal dislike of his former colleague, but then will chase the filthy pound to the doors of said colleague's friends and relatives; it's all a bit Machiavellian for my liking. However, if said man was suddenly to announce that he was giving most of the proceeds to charity, opinions might change somewhat.

Although, there'll be some out there who have no such dilemma, because they've got their head screwed on in a way which allows them to realise that they don't need to concern themselves with Morrissey's feelings in order to like his music. I always was too sensitive for my own good; bring on the agreement / derogatory comments / tumbleweed.

This is ridiculous, an absolute travesty of dignity on the part of Joyce and Rourke, but even more disgusting is that I'll buy it. Because I have to. I can't NOT watch it, simply because it has to do with Morose-y. I love him, so I'll give in, in the vain hope I'll learn something that somehow hasn't been divulged in the last 16 years of my fandom...So yes, the rhythm section are pathetic clinging vultures, but we are no better for buying into it, and I do not hold myself outside of that criticism, BELIEVE ME.

        ALTERNATE VIEW:
No matter WHAT Morrissey says, at one time he and Joyce and Rourke were like BROTHERS. You can unearth old interviews saying as much. And when Johnny tried to deny him a farewell show at Wolverhampton, Joyce and Rourke not only indulged but played on his first few solo singles. Yes, obviously they were financially recompensed (maybe? Eh, Mozzer?) but they LOVED him. They have always spoke glowingly of him. And The Smiths would NOT have been the same without Rourke's treble-high rubber-band plucking basslines, nor Joyce's punk-informed fastidious drums. So in a sense, they have every right to do this. I'll love Mozzer til the end and I'll stick by his solo stuff as much as to ANY Smiths track, but these guys helped make the songs that saved our lives. Can anybody HONESTLY disagree?

An apt reminder (if we needed one, or for those who missed it the first time around) from the mouth of Morrissey himself. Obviously some fans won't care that all royalties from Smiths merchandise go to Joyce, or that Morrissey has already paid him millions, but what everyone should be angry about is that Joyce has pursued his claims on legal aid. If that's true, then it makes me angry; I don't get taxed 22% of a shoddy income so some wealthy musician can deprive people who actually need financial help.

I think it’s a crime that Joyce receives all royalties. Not only is he robbing royalties from Morrissey and Marr but he’s also taking them from Andy Rourke who was in the same financial situation as him.

Surely the whole point of him going to court in the first place was to get his fare share. Now he has more that his fair share and is still looking for more. That is when it becomes greed.
