      I've been going right off Morrissey Solo in recent months due to a combination of dullness and negativity spreading accross its pages....but then a link to an interview like this comes along and all is forgiven!! This is an absolutely fabulous interview; the best for years......

              What was that comment about the Smiths being used in a 1985 jeans ad? Around 95 or 96, How Soon is Now was all over an Isuzu ad. The Buzzcocks' What Do I Get was also used in a similar campaign.

                  I don't know who Kate Sullivan is, but both she and Moz were Wide To Receive.

                  And that’s why most people reproduce, because it proves that they’re a regular Joe.

                  This had me howling. Saying Condaleezza Rice has a "Nazi face" (the jowl of cruelty) was a keeper, as well.

                  The story about the Moors was rightfully terrifying. Morrissey should write it as a short story. And then he should finish that autobiography!

                    One of the oddest things he's ever said (Score:0)
                    "So, we went to the nearest phone box in the nearest village, and we called the police, and we said, “We have just driven down the Wessenden Road on Saddleworth Moor, and somebody has emerged from the side of the road and pleaded to the car.”

                    If they were so sure it was a ghost, then why tell the police about it? The man is mental. So he would have stopped the car if it was a giant squirrel having a bit of a lie down, especially a grey one.However not for a naked man.Perhaps this is just a roundabout way of saying he's not in the gays after all.

                      Some interesting points. (Score:1, Interesting)
                      This was good interview because the interviewer was a sycophant. Morrissey opens up to people who he feels won't call him out, and have him explain his reasoning. Otherwise, he just shuts down, and acts catty.

                      Although, I do like the fact that he feels the same way I do about a female president (not merely for the sake of it), but his gushing praise for Obama was suspect. I would assume that he understood the absolute artificiality of political figures of any persuasion.

                      Finally, it's sad to hear that he actually believes in ghosts. I always thought that he was bit more realistic than that. The description certainly sounds embellished. Oh, and the part about Bowie and Bolan being effeminate? What the hell did he thing he was in the 80's? Manly?

                      I mean, I couldn't care less, but you know that there were more than a few ornery feminists scrunching their brows when he used such definitive terms to distinguish male and female traits. He seems to have a distrust of "ambitious" women. You know, kind of how many women feel towards each other.

                      Morrissey's teenage romanticism tends to grind, but that's what happens when you've lived in a bubble for most of your life. As much as he likes to separate himself from the celebrity pack, he suffers from some of the same delusions. At times he seems to recognize this, but if you catch him with his guard down, then you can tell that he's just itching to defecate on anything that doesn't directly relate to his imagination.

                            He will never know the joys of fatherhood because his lifestyle doesn't permit it.
                            Secondly, he's misquided about Obama. Barrack is inexperienced, and frankly not very unique in his thoughts.

                                  What a great interview. Charming as ever. I'm jealous of all you lucky people in CA. I haven't seen him since the last Anaheim pond show. One of the few things I miss about LA: MORRISSEY CONCERTS! And good public transportation. And Baja fresh restaurants and malls. But ESPECIALLY concerts! Have fun.

                                      I don't have enough verbs and nouns to say how much I appreciated this; it was like spending a morning with Moz, during such a casual and intense conversation that I even forgot to brush my teeth and wash my face! Behind all this mystique, Morrissey is truly just an unusually kind human being for these days - I haven't witnessed a pet sensitivity and a penchant for the surnatural like that in many many years, perhaps even since my aunt died, in the mid-eighties, and other folks, who had time and thoughtfulness to chat and meditate. Well, sorry for talking too much, it must be age.

                                      May he live long enough to exercise his 19th century writer's vein - and to finish his autobiography - which I'm sure will be as humongous as it will be delightful!

                                        Myself and Swallowneck are also cat lovers, which cements our bond to Mozzer even more!

                                        I have two cats - Bez (14 year olt "tom" cat) and Tallulah Baby. Several years ago Swallowneck was tickling Bez's tummy whilst watching tv and he didn't realise that his hand was rubbing lower as Bez had curled his purring body around Swallowneck's wrist. Before I knew it Swallowneck was rubbing Bez's testicles... It was not long after this that I took Bez to the vet for a "little operation", so any danger of a repeat molestation has disappeared!

                                            Also, I found it really comical that he referred to Bowie and Bolan as feminine, when he, himself appeared as a "women in a man's body" throughout his career. Of course, fat girls with low self-esteem find that attractive.

                                            Also, I like how he danced around the question about having sold his music to commercials. Was he, or the interviewer aware that "How Soon is Now?" played in a Nissan commercial no too long ago? When asked he replied "Not really?" What kind of political answer is that? It's a yes or no question, and the song could not have been used without his permission.

                                            The interviewer seemed a bit daffy, to be honest.

                                                What kind of interview is this? Ghosts, cats, his grave site-what the hell? And I can't belive Morrissey forgot about selling Smiths songs for TV ads. Nisson used 'How Soon is Now' in a national car ad a few years back and Morrissey had to have received a huge sum of cash for it. To tell you the truth, these kind of interviews suck. It would be better if he had said nothing. The You Tube clips added on were nice, however.

                                                      I just picked up two LA Weekly's and I'm about to read the article, but I just wanted to make a quick comment about my impression of the cover picture before that impression is morphed by the article. It looks like he's smiling. Not a huge ear to ear grin! More similar to a Mona Lisa type smile. It points to something I think we've all began to start realizing for some time. The elephant in the room so to speak. Morrissey is very happy. He's content. You notice that his songs formerly about depression and personal demons have turned into songs about frustrations about politics or other issues not related to self?

                                                      It's interesting that back in the early 90's when Moz was owning; selling out venues in seconds; thinner, selling more albums than he's able to do now ... he was also miserable (at least it seems like he was). Now, that he's arguably less famous and successful, he seems happy. He's dating; swigging Coronas at the Cat and the Fiddle, doing good interviews... I say bravo! Good for him.

                                                            Well, cats, dogs, and squirrels, (oh my!) aside, I thought the interview was fine. It was different. The interviewer seemed to have sensed that Morrissey is more interested about commenting about other people's work rather than his own, but sometimes when stolling amongst the mushrooms, sometimes one can stumble upon a truffle:

                                                            "People are afraid of it [glam rock] because they see that there’s a truth in it, there’s a truth in it for all of us. We all have the feminine side to our personalities, and most people in American society want to deny it, and the locker-room jock is celebrated always, even though their attitude is absolutely thick and useless, but it’s always celebrated, it’s never criticized. The feminine side is associated with art, and it’s threatening because it’s associated with intellect, and superiority."

                                                            Now that's a quote you can write home to your mother about.

                                                            This statement alone to me best illustrates why Bowie, Bolan, and the Dolls appealed so much to him; for they helped generate his attitude about gender; that is, the idea of humans possessing both masculine and feminine natures and having them in balance, rather than in conflict is what one must strive for. This must have seemed very revolutionary to a young Morrissey, though actually it is a very old ideal and is found quite prevalent in Eastern philosophy.

                                                            The Hindu god, Shakti, never needed a guitar or pink wig to get her message across.

                                                                I didn't know he had one. Does anyone know what the interviewer was referring to? Maybe she just meant his songs: I'm the Last of the Family Line, and Will Never Marry. But not all of Morrissey's songs are autobiographical, so who knows.

                                                                The only time I recall Moz being asked about kids was on this interview picture disc I had in the 80's. The journalist asked him -- pretty much out of the blue -- would you ever like to have kids someday. Morrissey said yes, but sounded doubtful that it would ever happen. He noted that people who would make wonderful parents often remain childless, while people (I'm paraphrasing here) who are ill-equipped both financially and intellectually "just have streams and streams of little children."

These days people haven't got the time to check if the rabbit on the road is dead or not. They just drive past. I wish I had the time and money to just ponder these things like Morrissey does. But i'm too busy to get to work. I'd love to live a life of solitude, music, tea, vegetarian food, thinking and books!

                                                                        A man was driving along the highway, and saw a rabbit hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of the car and was hit. The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road and got out to see what had become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit was dead. The driver felt so awful he began to cry.

                                                                        A woman driving down the highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong.

                                                                        "I feel terrible," he explained. "I accidently hit this rabbit and killed it."

                                                                        The woman told the man not to worry. She knew what to do. She went to her car trunk and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit, and sprayed the contents of the can onto the rabbit. Miraculously, the rabbit came to life, jumped up, waved its paw at the two humans and hopped down the road. 50 feet away the rabbit stopped, turned around, waved at the two again, hopped down the road another 50 feet, turned, waved, and hopped another 50 feet. The man was astonished. He couldn't figure out what substance could be in the woman's spray can! He ran over to the woman and demanded, " What was in your spray can? What did you spray onto that rabbit?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said:

                                                                        "'Hare Spray' Restores Life to Dead Hare. Adds Permanent Wave."

                                                                      Unlike most others, this piece reads like a raw transcript of the entire interview--not a chopped down digest conforming to editorial demands.
