A string of bands have announced comebacks - but why do they do it, and who could be next?

Their frontmen - Morrissey, Ian Brown and Paul Weller - have also enjoyed successful solo careers and so are less likely to need the windfall.

The chances of a reunion go up as the fortunes of the band's members go down and their egos and wallets long once more for the glory days.

But rock history proves that time is a great healer - and money can be a very useful medicine.

Morrissey would never reunite with The Smiths again.

I actually remember him saying when money was mentioned:

"There isn't enough money in the world"

My dear pal Swallowneck would rather see the reformation of Candy Flip than a full-blown Smiths reunion.

He often says "let sleeping dogs lie" when we visit the kennels at the weekends to give the neglected hounds a bit of exercise...

NY Doll (Score:1)

It struck me to watch Morrissey in New York Doll. Here he is, talking about how great it was to see his favorite band in the entire universe reforming for the fans. He's obviously awestruck, and he talks about how wonderful it is that Arthur Kane and David Johansen were able to come together after so long and forget their differences, and just play for the joy of being together making music again.

I thought, why won't he allow this for the Smiths? Put all the crap behind you and look how great it could be...even if it's just him and Johnny, what is it that's holdng them both back? Obviously they don't need the money, but why wouldn't they want to get together again for themselves, for the fans, and for the music? It could be great for them too.

Killer Kane died a happy man because they finally put it behind them and played again. Maybe there's a lesson there?

Let's all keep dreaming, and keep those fingers crossed, and maybe it will happen (after Andy and Mike die?)

Part of the integrity of the three bands mentioned ,The Jam, The Smiths and the Stone Roses, apart from the quality of their back catalogues, is that they haven't watered it down by coming back.

I dread to think what The Police will be like.
Will Sting bring his jazz noodlings to the fore?
Will Andy Summers live long enough?
