An Unexpectedly Difficult Vote for This Yank (Score:1)
I have so much respect and affection for so many people on this list (Kate Moss, no way) that I actually find it difficult to just blindly vote for Moz. Paul McCartney and Stephen Fry have meant an awful lot to me, as have Vivienne Westwood and David Attenborough. Great Brits all.

Michael Caine is an unbelievably powerful presence.

Bowie and Morrissey are the two living myths. The difference is that Bowie has been several icons - the Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, etc. The man, however, is recognizably a performer.

Morrissey has mythologized himself so completely and irrevocably that even age and time cannot dispel that first, huge, smack-in-the-face. He is one monumental iconic presence. Offstage, he has maintained his mystery.

What a work of art he is.

Moz (certainly. Yes.)
David Attenborough ( no question. Yes.)
Kate Moss (pretty, but c'mon? No.)
Macca (for the Beatles only and animal welfare.Yes.)
Vivienne Westwood (wtf!?! No.)
David Bowie (respect to the man. Yes.)
Alan Bennett (good, quaint writer. Should've been Pinter. No.)
Stephen Fry (Oscar Wilde wannabee. No.)
Kate Bush (greatest living female rock artist. Yes).
Michael Caine (the guv'nor. Yes).

My top three from those in terms of Cultural Impact.
Moz.
Bowie.
Attenborough.

With Macca bubbling underneath.

In the Importance Of Being Morrissey Linder Sterling said something to the effect of being able to take a picture of the back of Morrissey's neck and people still being able to recognize it as Morrissey. That always struck me as material for someone being an icon. At least in the physical sense.

Our Morrissey was born for this sort of status.

David Attenborough - Pinky’s brother, interest in animals

Alan Bennett – Alsation Cousin, rumoured to be Morrissey’s neighbour at one point and likely to get his vote in this field, - Moz often described as a musical equivalent of Bennett, including by

David Bowie – too numerous to mention

Kate Bush – most famous song references a 19th Century literary classic

Michael Caine – a jumped-up pantry boy who never knew his place

Stephen Fry - the other “latter day Oscar Wilde” , was exasperated on a celebrity edition of “University Challenge” when he was beaten to the buzzer when asked to name the lead singer in the Smiths.

Paul McCartney – one half of the Morrissey and Marr of his generation.

Kate Moss- blamed by Moz for Pete Doherty’s problems, Myra Hindley photoshop.

Vivienne Westwood - errr …. Moz went to see the Sex Pistols?

On the other hand, I have to say that I admire the way that they obviously let the people do all the nominating and voting- over here it would have been managed by producers who would pick the people who meet their demographic quotas and that might be part of the reason you rarely see monochrome selections such as this top-ten list.
