And he's "competing" against who? Christina Aguilera, Shakira and Nelly Furtado? (Well, at least he's above Paris Hilton, who is number 20). The only thing that these figures mean to me is that he's an alternative music singer/songwriter who became strong enough to pop up in charts that aren't for alternative music artists at all. It would be ridiculous to expect him to be number 1,2 or 3 in charts that judge hip swings and not music quality. But it is a refreshing consolation to see his highly unusual presence there. However, whether he's 100 or 1 there, I couldn't personally care less. Or not too much. I have a shelf set aside just for his CD in my room, and so this is the chart I look forward to.

I believe "Pigsty" will be the 4th and final single from this wonderful album.

I also believe that "Pigsty" will place VERY HIGH on the charts. It is destined to become an all-time classic.

I have to admit how sad it is to hear and read the policy/selection of what is played on UK radio (1 and 2 and independants) and what is not. In addition, to know about what can be issued on a single CD these days and what cannot.

Furthermore, it is a total disgrace that Sanctuary do not do more about this, to stop this sham occuring with Sanctuary 'artists' time and time again. Morrissey has saved Sanctuary's bacon (if you can excuse the pun) yet Sanctuary are directly in the game and they can do more to stop these things happening now than you or I.

Merck and Jed shame on you both. Those rules and selections are made by fools but it is Sanctuary that suffer the most, not you or I nor Morrissey.

The money these fools at Sanctuary have lost from these policies must run into hundreds of thousands of dollars. It's amazing that they can lose so much money and it is so sad that they let it continue time and time again.

The new single from Thom Yorke was new in at 23, which when you consider how much more mass press he and Radiohead get that Moz is someewhat of a surprise.

After The Youngest... failed to make the top 10, I was surprised to hear that Sanctuary were bothering releasing a third single from ROTT. Moz is clearly unhappy with anything that doesn't go top 10 or better, and it's obvious that this wasn't going to fare any better.

Basically, singles are supposed to be adverts for the album, and nothing by Moz that charts outside the top 10 or 15 will have been bought by anyone other than hardcore fans, so it's a bit of a pointless exercise really. And to be honest, when live versions of album tracks are being bunged on as B-sides, you kind of have to wonder if Moz's heart was really into this single release.

I think at this stage, we should all just applaud ROTT as a reasonable, chart-topping album, keep hold of its one outstanding track (Pigsty), and now let him live his life for a while until he sees fit to get a new record together.

No doubt, in their infinite wisdom, Sanctuary will try their luck with a fourth single, but hey ho. It's their money. Personally I think it's time to put the album to bed and move on. It's already heavily discounted everywhere, which shows how much faith all the major retailers have that they're going to shift any more copies.

'I Just Want To See The Boy Happy' has been rumored to become the fourth single in October.

This is one of the better songs on the album; I like the Roy Orbison feel (a la "My Love Life"). This would have made a much better debut single than "You Have Killed Me", which was formulaic and dull -- it sounded like any other Morrissey single. Predictability is killing his career.

Don't really care for 'In The Future..'
'Christian Dior' should of been the A-side, what a remarkable track, besides 'Pigsty' it's the best thing from Ringleaders.

The charts don't prove how popular (which obviously=good) Morrissey is, they just show how stupid a large majority of the record buying public of this country is.

I don't know whether to despair or just to be happy that we get to keep him for ourselves.

Anyone know if he made into the Irish Chart????? Some how i doubt it. i went into HMV on Grafton Street on Saturday to buy single and they only had 7" on display, when i went to counter i was told that they had sold out (but how many did they get in? 5?) When i asked if they'd be getting back anymore the guy (i swear) said you're better off ordering them. fantastic eh? f*cking gee bags.

I really believed In the Future... would make the top 10 (at least between #8-#10). Barring that I thought it would've beaten The Youngest... (I like both tracks, but In the Future pips it).

We don't have any marketing budget figures, but to the man (and woman) on the street in the UK -- how would you gauge the exposure these singles are getting compared to the Quarry ones did?

Most of the bands in the charts are shit anyway, and the people who listen to that music must be idiots if they think that is music. I agree, it just means that Moz is the alternative artist whos songs are strong enough to make in into charts that he doesnt belong in anyway, keep going Moz I still love you, loyal till the end my man, even if you never get airplay again I will still be following you all starrey eyed! Pleeeeeaaasee come back to Cardiff, I know you read these :)

It would help if HMV in Edinburgh didn,t promote his last single as the current single of the week. I asked the guy behind the counter why they were doing this he said, and I quote, "we've got to shift the old stock somehow". They had one copy of disc one but none of disc two. I hope none of you were fooled by this shameless ploy.

He's finally beaten Keane in the charts! They entered at 20. Well done Moz!
However, the Keane single is all over radio and their album has therefore been revitalised, sailing back into the top 10. Don't expect ROTT is even back in the top 75 but I haven't checked yet.
In the overall scheme of things, 17 is a very good placing for third Moz single off album. The prospect of Moz going top 20 again looked pretty unlikely after 1997...

If someone already owns ROTT and goes on to Itunes and just buys the B-sides to 'In the Future..' - does it still count as a purchase of the single for chart purposes?

(And does that make sense as a question?)

I think Morrissey should keep on releasing singles.Contrary to what some people are saying on this subject.Morrissey has always released great singles and great b-sides.I`m sure Morrissey would like to be recognized for his excellent work.But the charts have not always showcased quality work.Just look at the crap that does well on the charts.The crap gets the most airplay.Sometimes something good sneaks by because of the people.ROTT was a number 1 album because of the fans.I hope Morrissey keeps on releasing singles.I may not have tons of money but I will always buy them
