Got mine this morning, put the CD in, watched the video...Alain on drums in the video! Seems to be having a jolly time. Christian Dior is a nice tune indeed - now is it just me, or does the guitar part in the verse sound like the harp in The Public Image? B-side of a third album release aswell...

Bye for now,

is a good pop song, maybe my favourite of the J Tobias contributions to ROTT.

'Christian Dior' - well, yes you can see why it's a b side, there's no tune as such.

But - such BEAUTIFUL piano from Mikey Farrell at the beginning. I hoped for a glorious stripped down piano ballad but it didn't arrive. If Farrell can come up with piano like that, he should co-write much more on the next album! Oh, for an album of songs like 'I've Changed My Plea'! I still think Morrissey should do a piano/acoustic guitar album next, with maybe one or two Moz midtempo pop rockers thrown in for good measure, but mainly something restrained and spartan and beautiful. He has it in his means to do it!

I actually do like the lyrics, I think they're qute whistful and sad...a bit like Mozz said ROTT was going to be before he went to Rome. Bit tuneless mind, but I like the piano.

As for the single, I think it's the best one he's released, I never really liked Youngest... that much, this is far superior. Love the chunky opening guitars, and the song as a whole really. Shame it wont get the publicity it genuinely deserves.

I think the live songs sound great, particularly I'll Never Be... which I think is beautiful live. Sadly he never played it when I saw him (Apollo, Reading and Rockim park) so it's terrific to hear it. Work of art is a nice little song, too.

'I'm Playing Easy To Get' was certainly Boz's best of 2004 and it's ashame that we must keep listening to the BBC version. I truly believe Morrissey missed the mark with this song -- it's a classic.

People often moan about this 'new Morrissey', but I don't think there's anything wrong with what he's doing...it's just different. There's no way he could have done Ganglord in his Smiths days, and for him to be able to do it now says to me that he's not 'past it' or whatever.

I was originally disappointed that there were no new songs on CD2, but then I realised that I do enjoy hearing the way things are done live. It makes older tracks much more refreshing.

(I seem to be the only one who does not LOVE 'In the Future'...I think it's one of the weakest on the album. Having said that, I really like the bit 'Something must have gone right...')

I have to say that this is snother one of Morrissey's understated classics and yet summing up the top quality of all the songs that have been released on ROTT and recorded in Rome.

And despite this, the chart world and the radio world seem to ignore these classics time and time again. A conspiracy ? A failure ? One that the music world could take some years to regret I suspect but bitterly dissapointing.

The B side, Christian Dior, is produced as if was recorded live on a parisian street in 1885 with panache and style. With Morrissey releasing another softly sung classic, I doubt that all the readers here would say that it was a strong b side - based on the uptempo releases of the past - so it is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but tragedy or waste, success or extravagance, Morrissey delivers a song that is acompanied by some lovely muscial arrangements from Boz and Michael. This band are working hard and playing with there hearts. On ROTT, it is nice to hear production where you can actually hear all of the instruments in the band.

Another day older myself, I am here, waiting and yet loving every minute of it (now that I am pain free) and looking forward to 2007 and the next album with anticipation and excitement. Morrissey has just made two fantastic albums yet has plenty more in the bag for 2007.

'In the Future' has really grown on me. It's a great song. Surely, Jesse's finest musical moment to date. A pleasing upbeat chorus and an great finalé.
I don't blame radio stations for ignoring The Youngest; it was joyless and humourless. But it's a travesty that 'In the Future' isn't picking up more plays. At least Radio 2 are playing it if only on the C list.
