Pop group Beatnik Filmstars have been tagged as 'The British Guided By Voices' due to the amount of songs released and also because of the lo-fi recording style. They’ve also been referred to as 'The English Pavement' and lyrically described as 'like Morrissey with a sense of humour'. The website: www.beatnikfilmstars.co.uk - contains more information about them.

Some of their songs are available to play on their myspace blog.

Included there is their cover of The Smiths’ song, Shakespeare’s Sister, and the band’s comment on this choice: -
“We were asked to cover a Smiths song, for a compilation, so we chose Shakey's Sis, we kept it close in structure to the original, because it sounded rubbish when we tried to change it, but we added some of our own lo-fi ness to it, and we quite like the result. We've put it on myspace for a while so you can have a listen. Play it loud! Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey!”

Morrissey doesn't have a sense of humour?

Nice cover. I saw on their Myspace an ad for an EP of another band called The Bobby McGee's, which includes a song called "Morrissey Said To Tori"... but the link that they included doesn't work.

Did they actually mean to imply that Morrissey doesn't have a sense of humor with his lyrics?

Have they ever even listened to Morrissey/The Smiths?!

        Fans. (Score:0)
they are very obviously Moz fans, as on their recent In Great Shape CD (track & Field Records) there is one song that pinches the line, I was happy in the haze...then they chance it slightly to Of a drunken year or two. And on another track he sings about chatting with Morrissey, and it's very good. the 'Morrissey with a sense of humour' is not the band saying this, it's what has been said about them by journalists if you bother to read properly!
I like their version of Shakespeare's Sister. I think Moz will too.Expect them on tour with him before too long.

          Brilliant! (Score:0)
This cover version is brilliant, the best Smiths cover i have yet to hear, it remains faithful to the original, but adds a lot of the bands own personality, and sound. I shall buy their albums.
