She admitted it in a Belgian musicmagasine (called Humo - the one from the week 21th to 27th of July). Here's the bit:
Interviewer: What is, in your opinion, the best popsong ever made?
Joan: that's a terrible question, sweatheart. The first song that comes in mind is: 'hit me baby one more time...' Love that song. Really. But let's think of something more, say, profound. (thinks) I know! (sings) 'ask me ask me ask me...', from the Smiths. (sings again) ' Because if it's not love, then it's the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb, the bomb that will bring us together'.
'Ask', beautiful title as well. Do you know I've never seen the Smiths or Morrissey live?! Did you?
Interviewer: Yes, recently in Amsterdam.
Joan: (screams) I never have! Goddammit! It must have been fantastic!
Interviewer: It was, although he could have played a bit longer...
Joan: Forever! Never stop, Morrissey!
I knew Joan had a good taste of music
Her recent full length release is stunning. Jeff would have been proud.
