Richard Madeley slates Morrissey over Animal Testing quote

I got Ok magazine (I know, I know), and there is a small section where celebrities have a rant about the issues of the week. My jaw dropped when I saw daytime TV buffoon Richard Madeley having a pop at our Moz.

I quote:

'Another blow to the terrorists on Tuesday when the insufferable singer Morrissey warned medical researchers who perform vital animal experiments, 'We will get you.' It is puffed up prats like Morrissey who have succeeded in turning public opinion so decisively against the animal rights movement. Morrissey is about as likely to "get" a medical researcher as Danny La Rue.'

Danny La Rue, FYI, is an awful camp entertainer whom I haven't seen on TV for many a year, thus proving how out of touch Madeley is and always will be. Bless him though! 'Puffed up prat'?! Projection!

I fear the TV baboon Richard M gives too much credit to Morrissey.

It's not fey pop stars like Morrissey who turn people against vivisection and testing on primates. It's more likely to be the growing awareness among the general public that those primates share cognitive and emotive brain patterns with humans - in other words that there is very very little difference between testing on primates and testing on humans: many primates are very well aware of the condition they're in, remember the pain, anticipate it, and experience distress.

And whilst no one would ever allow the experiments on humans, apparently primates are considered lower in the cosmic hierarchy, and therefore subordinated to the goals of the humans.

That view, IMHO, is the one that should be challenged.

Sure, these tests are useful to modern medical science. But is there sufficient moral ground to say that we can decide to put primates through this suffering just because we happen to pull the strings ?

That's the statement Morrissey makes / has made. For ages, if I recall well.

Morrissey fans are so utterly predictable. They're truly loathsome as a group. Any quote that has anyone even remotely questioning the great Moz, is torn apart without any substance. It's like watching grade schoolers call each other names for not being popualr.

I have no idea who this guy is, but he's right. I seriously doubt Morrissey has done any unbiased research on the topic, and his ill-informed opinions do sway the weak minded. Look around this forum. He doesn't even follow the news in depth, yet anyone who questions his reasoning is beneath him?

At times this forum resembles the same blind, unreasonable fervor prevalent among Islamic extremists.

God forbid anyone draws any kind of cartoonish image of Morrissey. If Morrissey had any substance beyond melodic pop-songs, then he would allow his thoughts to be debated, which he never has. As we know, he's too much of a coward for that.

Grow up. Read a book. Stop getitng all of your ideas from one place.

I'm all for animal testing, but i really dislike Madeley. I would hazard a guess that in a popularity poll taken amongst people under 65 years old, moz would prove to be more popular than dick madeley could ever hope to be. whats so funny is that dick seems totally unaware of this. the man has become a real life alan partridge.
So, potter-woman, stand up for moz this monday.

I don't really understand what all this fuss regarding the Oxford comments is about. It's probably good that he attracted so much attention to the issue - to any 2 haters there is at least 1 person who'd think about it, go to the shop and check if the product was tested on animals, before buying it.

However, I was at the Oxford gig and would never guessed that comment will cause such a reaction.
All he said was: "We will get you". Now, is my English being poor and this is the new way of saying "We will bomb you?"

We will get you in terms of " We will do our best to stop animal testing and one day we'll win" - yes, "We will get you" in terms of "We will hire a couple of suicide bombers for you" - no.

Last thing I understand is the connection with London bombing. And I do have the right to talk about it. Only miracle saved me from the death in the terrorist attack in the metro 6 years ago. I came from the city, where people woke up in the morning just to switch on the news and find out that another apartment block nearby was exploded and hundreds were killed during the night. I moved to London then and the terrorist attacks moved with me. I don't even come close to the underground these days, cause I can't overcome the fear.

Keeping in mind all that, I don't see any connection between Morrissey's comments about animal rights and London bombings. I'm pretty sure some moron said it and others just repeating this stupid comment without giving it a second thought.
It's like the Morrissey is a fascist story once again.

For God's sake people, can't you see the difference between real terrorism threat and a vegetarian pop star speaking his mind on the animals rights? Turn your hate to your government that welcomes terrorists from all over the world with the wide open arms instead!

Being savaged by Madeley -what a terrifying prospect! Madeley enriches the world with his unintentionally hilarious interviewing techniques and unique, erm, insight. Richard and Judy's interview of Bill Clinton was one of the all time classics. Richard seriously tried to draw a direct parallel with his own arrest on shoplifting charges, and the attempted impeachment of Clinton over the Lewinsky affair.
"Of course, its not quite the same - I was innocent and you were guilty - but I know how you must have felt." And Judy addressed him as "Mr President" throughout, despite it being 2003. You just can't beat that for comic value!

I read this in one of the broadsheets a week or so since. Unfortunately, (working as I do in a bookshop) I have to champion Madeley as part of the 'Richard and Judy Book Club'; they don't even choose the books, some publisher/producer does all that for them, I doubt Madeley even reads them given some of the daft comments he makes in his reviews ... bloody charlatan. Anyways, Madeley's smug, smiling face, patronising holier than thou tone and incompetent interviewing style never ceases to irritate me. Thus, his comments are bound to make me side with Morrissey (if sides should ever need to be drawn), despite the fact that 'We will get you' sounds a bit childish from where I'm sitting. Come on Morrissey, we all know that you can do better than that; distance yourself from knee jerk extremism and start up a passionate, intelligent debate on the issue. Write something on True-To-You, because then the music press will pick it up, after that the papers will seize on it, and hey presto, we have a war of words and ideas, like the kind you always used to generate ... the kind that brought people to your side in their droves and isolated twats like Madeley who think they're witty and intelligent. You can shove people like him into an ideological black hole, because all Madeley cares about is that his spoon-fed 'News Of The World' outlook on life remains untarnished by free thinking individuals.
And I wish people would calm down with the word 'terrorist'; we're becoming the Knights who say 'Ni'.

thats not proving how out of touch Madeley is- he's obviously making his point with the use of a little hyperbole in comparing the effectiveness of Moz to La Rue. he's basically saying that Moz's "threat" has no teeth and it might as well be coming fromthe most obscure of personalities.

as someone already pointed out though, the bit about "another blow to the terrorists" doesnt make much sense at all- unless he means that Moz is literally blowing them.
