From Simon Goddard:
The new edition of Songs That Saved Your Life is NOT a revised edition, it is merely a smaller-sized and less expensive paperback version of the second version that came out in 2004. No new interviews, maybe a few less superfluous adjectives, and minor grammatical surgery but that's it. Same cover, same pics, etc. So there are only two reasons to buy it again; one, if you've only got the old blue cover first edition which is now obsolete after Johnny Marr's input for second version. And two, if you'd prefer a smaller copy to carry around in your handbag. Otherwise, save your pennies, kids!

Stefan Krix writes:
A few new books are about to be released within the next months, that may arise the interest of the fans.

Simon Goddard is about to release the 3rd Edition of his Songs That Saved Your Life. Again, it is a revised one and not just a reprint. I don't know what he has found out since the last edition that another one is needed, but the 2nd Edition of that book was really worth to buy that book again. For those of you, who do not have this book, it's highly recommended. (Out in the UK on 01.07.2006, GBP 6,99, Reynolds).

Johnny Marr together with Richard Carman is the author of a book called Smiths And The Art Of Gun Slingling, supposed to be a semi-selfpenned autobiographie. Johnny's view on The Smiths seems to be worth the requested GBP 9,99, but i haven't heard anything abouth the content up to now. We'll see when the book is out in the UK on 15.07.2006.
(IMP).

The last in line comes from our well-known Morrissey author Johnny Rogan. After his previous books Morrissey and Marr: The Severed Alliance and The Complete Guide To The Music of The Smiths his next object of desire is Morrissey Albums. The book bearing this very title, tba on 25.08.2006 in the UK, will cost GBP 9,99 (Omnibus Press).

All three items are available for pre-order.

I liked the first Rogan book - once it got going. The part about Jet the Headmaster was overlaboured, as was the Irish connection. Not that these were unimportant, but it took too long to get to the meat (is murder) of the story. Nevertheless, Rogan on The Smiths was a very interesting read, and I enjoyed the 'postscript' chapter on Moz's solo work, to which I recall Rogan being quite favourable. I think it will be interesting to see what Rogan thinks of the albums since 'Your Arsenal' and whether he will go with critical consensus or not.

Of course I will buy all three of these.

What about the other book? (Score:1)
What ever happened to that book Rogan once spoke of that was going to get into Morrissey's "personal" life.

When Morrissey was told of this, he said something along the lines of, "Well then it's going to be a short book, isn't it."

Rogan mentioned that it was going to crack the case of Morrissey's covert love life.

Let's be clear: Rogan is a fat, obsessive quack who harbours a barely-concealed desire to engage in sundry perverse sexual fantasies with Morrissey. The "Severed Alliance" was such an overwrought, overthought piece of nonsense. Just write love letters and spare us, please.

The Rogan book sounds a lot like this one released a month ago:

I'll welcome anything by Goddard, his book is my favourite of the whole Morrissey/Smiths bibliography. I'm just hoping that's this new edition is worth it as much as the second edition was to the first one... that it's not just the second edition with the "Click track/Cowbell song" added...

Smiths and Morrissey songs (not severed alliance) writing a paragrpah on each song up to the Boxers single. It was interesting and thoughtful stuff. Pretty good lyrical and musical analysis of all the songs. I'd certainly welcome an update of this. Would be great to read synopses of little-reviewed songs like Nobody Loves Us, Lost and The Never Played Symphonies...
