2006 is Sir John Betjeman's centenary year and there will be numerous events taking place over the coming months to celebrate the life and works of the much loved Poet Laureate.

According to johnbetjeman.com, Morrissey has been asked to take part in a John Betjeman gala evening on Sunday the 10th of September.

I think there is a difference between being asked to attend something and actually confirming that you will be there!!!
It would be interesting to know what the response was as I know Moz is a bit partial to Sir John.

    I'd be interested in knowing who decided on the final invite list. It seems an odd assortment of entertainers. It'd be pretty cool if the Mozzer decided to attend/perform.

      It's probably happened before at a foreign event or something, but British Sea Power and Morrissey being at an event is something which has eluded us for a long time and now the chance is there! My word, that's like a dream lineup.

          A Child Ill (Score:1)
          On the 2002 tour, a recording of Sir John reading "A Child Ill" was used as the intro. So its obviously known to the organisers that Moz is a bit of a fan.

          I assume the strange line-up have this in common.
