I know people say that fans don't have to share Morrissey's political views to appreciate the music, and to an extent I think this is true, but Morrissey has been so vocally anti-Tory in many songs,not to mention interviews, that it's hard to imagine David Cameron being a genuine fan. Although I must say I find it a strange band wagon to jump on to try and gain votes.

... is a state school socialist trying to get out. Cameron's saying, 'look at me, I'm ordinary, I'm liberal.' But he misses the point; politicians aren't ordinary free thinkers, they have to sacrifice most of their principles to make it into the upper echelons of politics in the first place. I'm not claiming that to like Morrissey (and other politically motivated artists) you HAVE to be from a working class, socialist (i.e. old Labour) background but, to understand and sympathise with his lyrics and his lifestyle, that background certainly helps.
I'm sure that Cameron does like Morrissey and The Smiths, just as Yogi Blair likes The Clash, but music is simply another facet of existence to people like them; they don't live for music like some of us do.
The trouble we have as voters now is that the lines between left and right are becoming increasingly blurred. Cameron has said he can't listen to Margaret On The Guillotine and The Queen Is Dead because they bash Thatcher and the monarchy respectively; he still has those Tory principles that support the bourgeois at the expense of the proletariat, the hardline religious influence of the 'white' right at the expense of the secular, liberal left. However, as a Thatcherite and monarchist, he has a lot in common with the Bible bashing Blair; the man who's first move as PM was to invite the Iron Lady round for tea. Cheers for that Tony; no wonder Morrissey doesn't vote.

This is just a suggestion but... maybe he just likes the song because the music is good and it has a great melody. Not everybody "lives for music" like some unnamed fools above. I like Ace of Spades by Motorhead, but i don't sit analysing the lyrics, trying to wonder what Lemmy wants me to do with my life. It's only music. Some singers (Morrissey) write better lyrics than others (Sugababes, for example). But, as i say, it's only music - you don't HAVE to live your life by it. In fact, doing such a thing probably restricts you from having a life (a la Moz in his teenage years). But he's moved on; maybe some of you hero-worshippers stuck in your Smiths-heaven circa 1985 should follow his lead...
Oh aye, and don't let this sway you in the next election. Cameron is a dick - do not vote for him.
