Ringleader out-performs Quarry (critically), goes ‘Gold’ and climbs back up the UK album chart

Maurice E writes:
Ringleader has been given a total score of 75 on Metacritic (which provides a weighted average of the main reviews.) For comparison, Quarry received 70.

Mercury Prize nominated albums tend to get from the mid 70s upwards (Tunstall and the Kaiser Chiefs both got around 75) so this may be Morrissey’s first realistic chance of a Mercury nomination.

Ringleader is also now officially a Gold album in the UK (having shifted over 100,000 units) according to figures published in Music Week. This is more than most Moz albums although Quarry eventually went platinum (300,000).
Finally, for the first time since its release, Ringleader has actually gone up in the UK album charts albeit from a lowly 72 to a slightly less lowly 64.

you mean KT 'sauce in a can' Tunstall? her "woohoo" song is about as spicy as a Taco Bell Chalupa.

And i have yet to make it to the end of the Keiser Chief's album.

ringerleaders is much better than that. i'm surprised to find all the revisionists who make it sound like Quarry was part of the good old days before morrissey went bad.

            Sales elsewhere? (Score:1)
Not that big sales have ever been the Mozzer's forte but Does anyone know the official sales of ROTT around the world... Im guessin around 300 thousand worldwide. I would presume ROTT is somewhere near 100K in the US at this point(my God i hope so) and I would presume its sold maybe at least another 100K in Europe, since it went Top 10 in a few Euro Territories when it first came out and He even had # 1's in Greece and Sweden, and lest we forget far flung Isreal and Malta-(I think it went #1 here) Talk about Idiosyncratic number 1's!!! If there are any enlightened Morrissey statisticians please inform me! Thanks!(=0)

It'll probably sell half a million in the end.
Half of Quarry sales, twice (or more) Maladjusteds & about the same number of Vauxhalls.

If anyone thinks this dip in sales is bad, take a look at some of these:

The Darkness: Album One 1.25million, Album two 120,000

            Ouch!

Manic St Preachers: Album five 900,000, Album six less than 60,000, Best of 1million Album seven 20,000

            Sweet jesus!
