One of the dj's (and program director, I think) is a big Smiths/Moz fan, and I didn't hear any new Moz on the radio. They did have a listening release party, and there were about 30 people there. Not exactly a raging fan event. Keep in mind, this is a place where Morrissey played to 10,000+ people on the Kill Uncle tour. For the Your Arsenal tour there were around 6000. For Maladjusted, around 1500. The tour in 2002(?) where there was no new album, there were about 800 people at the U of U. The fans just aren't there. He gets no promotion, no radio play, and people seem to have forgotten that he exists. Frankly, I don't care, but at some point he's going to hang it up because nobody's listening (except us Moz-solo'ers).

I like the new album, but I just don't see any new fans being won over with the music, and the older, more casual fans don't seem interested in him (or any music - they're too busy paying their mortgages I suppose).

One other thing, I have a friend who thinks The Smiths are the greatest band ever, but he lost interest in the solo career. When I showed him the new album he laughed at the cover. He listened to it once and said "no thanks". I don't know why, but Moz has lost his appeal to alot of people who were once fans.

As long as he keeps releasing music I don't care what the numbers are, but I think the sales figures are going to affect his future output - how can they not? It is a business, after all.

I hope it doesn't become a situation like James or Gene where they started releasing albums only in the UK. I know the US music scene is pathetic, but we've got to have some hope!

                                    Bye now.
