i have not heard the single on the radio at all. granted, i live in denver.... not exactly the epicenter of musical culture, but we have a few stations that have been kind to moz over the years. i reckon this has more to do with lack of promotion stateside than anything else. it seems to be doing fine in europe where it has been heavily promoted and he is in the midst of touring. all that being said, i could care less where it charts. the only thing i wonder about is if such things can have an effect on determining where/how many u.s. dates there will be. does anyone know if these things matter in determining dates?

but hey, Queensryche's second week drop was even worse! hehe

It seems that Morrissey and America have finally had a spiritual parting of the ways. It was inevitable, the way things were going. That sort of James Dean, Elvis, all-American rebel image must have worn thin a while ago, and we have now become the one to be rebelled against.

Yep, he's a Euro/Brit now, what with the Italian flag, Sacha Distel, a UK no. 1, etc. It's easy to see why he would have feelings of irritation and cultural alienation (FBI rough-ups, stalkers, a certain president, etc.)

Still, his American fans are as supportive and loyal as ever, as he undoubtedly knows, and we will greet him with open arms upon his return to our troubled shores.

Why? The Kilborn shows, interviews with CNN and Spin Magazine (Hell he was on the front cover!) Plus he did a highly press publicized 5 night stint in both LA and NY before the album came out. People simply dont know there's a new album out in the US. Maybe once Morrissey announces a tour and does a little promotion here (if he does at all!)things might pick up a bit...but the tide has turned. The early 90's saw Morrissey selling out arenas all over the US in record time! Morrissey knows his audience are now in Europe-He opened his tour to a packed Scandanavian arena followed by a continuing near sold out tour all through Europe. Enough said! Moz dont forget about your loyal 150,000 American fans! Please come back!

                      No. (Score:1)
Often times a record company will spend big money on getting an album together, the studio time, the actual pressing of the discs, the promotions etc and when they do this and the band goes on tour, the tour generally makes money. The first whiff of any profits go to the record company to pay off the costs incurred by the artist to make the record.

That is how it works for unestablished artists.

Morrissey probably has a deal that covers all the costs and has a set amount of money for promotion. He and the songwriters probably get 50% of the publishing rights and Sanctuary would get the other half. The last piece of the deal is the cut of the sales. I have no idea if Moz has a good deal or not hear but he definitely gets some money.

If is likely that he can do tours at his own expense and in turn take all the profits. The record company might throw some promotional dollars around if they thought it would increase record sales or airplay which in turn would generate publishing revenue.

Based on the ticket prices and his ability to sell out most venues plus the incredibly high margin on merchandise, it's safe to say Morrissey will make substantially more money doing the tour than doing the album and the singles.
