it's a hollow fans only chart success (Score:0, Redundant)
the British public have shown no real interest in ROTT or YHKM.
it took first of the gang for Quarry to start selling well and it'll take a similar radio-friendly song off ROTT to have the same impact.
but, let's face it, there's nothing on the new album anywhere near as good as First of the Gang so it'll probably sink without trace like all Morrissey albums with the exception of Quarry and Viva.

But... (Score:0)
I seem to remember Meat Is Murder dropping without much fight after it's week at number one - but don't let facts get in the way of your Moz hating and Marr loving...

Here's what happened with First of the Gang (Score:0)
First of the Gang was the only single since Every Day is Like Sunday to re-juvenate the chart success of a Morrissey album. Who Ate Me Curry disappeard from the top 40 within 6 weeks, like all other Moz solo albums, but then FOTG started getting major UK airplay (for Morrissey at least). It became the most-played record on Radio 2, Virgin were playing it four of five times a day, and XfM were playing it loads too.

This airplay lifted Quarry back into the top 20, something that has never happened before with a Moz album. Whether you personally like the song or not is totally irrelevant. AlI I’m saying is that it was largely responsible for YRTQ’s album-chart longevity and stopped it from being a fans-only album like all other solo albums bar Viva.

Once FOTG disappeared from the airwaves, Quarry plummetted out of site. I don’t think that there is a song with similar appeal on ROTT: something with a zingy chorus, inspired rhyming couplets and a dash of humour. ROTT is a largely humour-free album although I still prefer it to YRTQ.

    Not surprising... (Score:0)
Of course it's not selling well! It's a crap album! DUH!

Dreary, dreary, dreary melodies...stale, uninspired lyrics.... it's totally behind the times. Frankly it's embarrassing. A few years ago I was the biggest Moz fan ever. I was disappointed with YATQ, but ROT is frankly abomninable.

And YHKM dropping out of the charts? Come on people, that is shameful! It just shows you - Moz only appeals to Moz fans. Everybody else thinks he's way past it.
