Rolling Stone has given the Moz LP 3.5 out of 5 stars.( the same as You Are the Quarry) The review was sadly only a paragraph and towards the back of the review section in the magazine, giving much more print to Ponce, erm Prince and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (WHICH BOTH RECEIVED 4 STARS.) (=0(
The review of of the cd was pretty positive despite it being insultingly short. The text is not up yet on the Rolling Stone website yet...but sure enough it will be. In a nutshell,The reviewer praises Visconti and Morricone especially and talks a little about Morrissey's sexual awakening in 'Dear God' and makes brief mention of Life is A Pigsty as an epic. Sadly these are the only songs even mentioned in the review.
As compared to past Morrissey albums
I think the review is fair considering his best albums (Vauxhall, Viva Hate, & Your Arsenal received 4 stars from the publication)
While his decent albums (Ringleader, Quarry, Maladjusted, and Bona Drag recieved the 3 and a half stars)While Southpaw was dismissed with a mere 2 and a half stars.
Personally I i think this album is somewhere in between the 1st category(4 stars) and the 2nd category(3.5 stars) but Im feeling generous and I probably would have given it The 4 stars since I think its better than Quarry and Maladjusted. But one man's coffee, is another man's tea, is another man's whiskey...
