If you handed out lyric sheets of Lloyd Cole’s “These Days” taken from the album “Mainstream” (1987). Evaluate what they think the song is about. Explain the history of the song. Produced in 1987 during the peak of Aids hysteria years. Record company (Polydor) refused to include the song on the album as they felt it endangered Cole’s image as a potential chart star (ie. He must be gay) and potential sales and Polydor’s profits may suffer. Cole refused to release the album without the track. He and Polydor were in conflict.

I really hope Mr Cole did not endorse his record company to do this.

I listened to a few of his tracks on amazon and his songs are as unintersesting as his dull mug.

fantastically written, beautifully arranged, imaginative pop songs.
I saw his Commotions reunion gig last year (or 2004) and it was brilliant. Moz was a huge fan of Lloyd Cole the man, if not his songs.
I'd recommend his 'best of' compilation or his first album 'Rattlesnakes'. Here are my top 10 favourite LC songs:

so because lloyd cole doesn't even criticise morrissey, but merely describes a single album as dull (based on the reasoning that he was tired of moz) then this justifies harsh criticism of him on personal and musical levels? i didn't realise i had to consider ever comment about morrissey a personal attack on myself to the extent that i blindly slag off anyone who doesn't think in exactly the same way about morrissey that i do. furthermore, i will have to ignore that fact that lloyd cole was lyrically fantastic, a pleasant singer, and wrote many good songs. you see, he's NOT morrissey. and that's HIS fault.

he's just toured europe and has a new album out later in the year.
i recommend the orchestral 'dont get weird on me babe' (1991)
or the acoustic 'love story' (1995)
or the latest sublime and gentle 'music in a foreign language'.(2003)

Lloyd Cole's first solo record "Lloyd Cole" is really good. It's a very New York-sounding record.

Cole is a good lyricist. Very clever and observant.

What has Cole done again? When did he last have a good CD? In fact, I can only recall one good cd and that was it. Morrissey's worst solo album is far better to Cole's best album. Cole, you are an arsehole!

I think you'd really, really like him. He has a lot of wit, different than Mr. M., more like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. I think he's a self-confessed folk singer nowadays... and he's very humble and serene in concert.
