Claudia writes:
While heralding The Boyfriends' single I Love You as their runner up Track Of The Week in this week's magazine, NME has suggested that “…you can almost hear Morrissey writing a letter of congratulations”.

"Oh Great! They sound like The Smiths"

    1- they don't

2- even if they did sound like them, why not listen The Smiths...oh I know...cuz NME readers prefer Paraguyan whiskey to Scotish...stop looking for new heroes!! All chords have been played...there's no need for new music!

I've not yet heard The Boyfriends, but I would like to state, for the record, that the NME has not yet mentioned The Boyfriends without comparing them to The Smiths or Morrissey. Not ONCE! Even when it's just a single sentence, something about Moz is in there.

I think the first time NME covered The Boyfriends was when the band opened the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury 2005 - there were at least 2 Smiths references - they said some song was sung with 'Hand in Glove-style ambiguity'. Since then, they've mentioned The Boyfriends 5-6 times, and they have ALWAYS mentioned Moz and/or The Smiths in the same sentence or brief paragraph.

isn't there some vague Suede link there? Is that the band fronted by David Barnett, who wrote the Suede bio a few years back?
