Battle of the bands - Manchester Online

POP stars will face more costly legal battles of the kind that dented the bank balances of Morrissey and Richard Ashcroft, a Manchester lawyer has warned.

Session musicians and backing singers have been given greater rights over their work in a new law that makes sure they get credit for their roles in chart-topping hits.

Entertainment law expert Francis McEntegart said it would mean more musicians can claim a stake in royalties for their performances.

it might matter (Score:1)
if that song made a shitload of money. otherwise, if you decided to litigate over every last b-side you ever appeared on, who would want to work with you again?

Seems... (Score:1)
a little fussy. In my opinion the singer/songwriter credits do the musicians justice. On the other hand I would like to know exactly what Boz Boorer wrote on Your Arsenal. I heard he did a lot of work on that album that went unnoticed. Looks the same for the new album!

Morrissey Did Not Split The Money Fairly (Score:0)
However Joyce is a filthy greedy bastard who got too much and continues to do so he should of taken a pay off and split the money MORE Equally from then on, not screw Morrissey/ Marr for all their Royalties.
Andy Rourkes deal for a fair share was crippled by Joyce's & Morrissey's legal action, in the end neither Morrissey or Joyce are right but both have made historic mistakes.
